General Job Description We have an immediate opening for a skilled manual Machinist to set up and operate traditional machines for the fabrication, repair, and alteration of component parts. The ideal candidate is comfortable operating manual lathes, mills, grinders, and other hand-controlled equipment to fabricate and modify metal parts according to precise specifications. Specific machines include LeBlond and Victor horizontal lathes, Bridgeport and Chevalier horizontal milling machines, and a Carlton radial arm drill. Specific Job Requirements Use precision tools, machinery and equipment such as lathes, vertical milling machines, drill presses, hydraulic presses, chop saws, band saws, and a variety of cutting tools and equipment. Ability to interpret blueprints and CAD drawings to create custom parts using traditional techniques. Performs precision measurements and adjustments using hand tools and gauges to meet tolerance requirements. Fabricate and shape parts out of steel, aluminum and bronze. Properly and safely select, align, and secure, holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on to machines. Ability to identify and use proper inserts, fixtures and tooling. Set up and perform turning, boring, and facing operations. Job Qualifications 5+ years of experience operating manual machines (e.g., lathes, mills, grinders). Degree in Precision Machining also welcome. High degree of mechanical aptitude, accuracy, and precision. Strong experience with hand tools and general fabrication equipment. Able to set up, operate, and maintain manual lathes and manual milling machines. Able to use industrial radial arm drills. Able to chase metric and standard threads. Knowledgeable on drill presses, horizontal and vertical band saws, metal presses, and shears. Physical Requirements Must be able to stand on your feet for long periods of time in a shop environment.
