Identify requisition and additional paperwork errors and sample inconsistencies. Communicate with appropriate staff when information is needed to successfully accession a test.Perform routine cleaning and maintenance procedures for laboratories. Assist in ordering and maintaining inventory of supplies and their storage. Ensure that work areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective and efficient environment for employees. * General Genetic Techniques - Follow established laboratory procedures and policies for all laboratory duties performed. * Analysis, Interpretation and Reporting - Demonstrate expertise in chromosome morphology, chromosome analysis, and photography on the Cytovision imaging system. * Professional Development - Maintain certification through continuing education. Increase overall genetics knowledge through use of laboratory and hospital Continuing Education programs, presentations, literature and meetings. Provide education to personnel and trainees (fellows and residents) through structured presentations and unstructured interactions while performing tests or resolving technical questions. Teach/train and/or oversee teaching/training of new or less experienced genetic technologists. Participate in establishing personal job requirements and goals; perform duties at the desired level of competency. Contribute information to manager throughout the year on direct reports if assigned. Oversee the day-to-day operation of assigned laboratory sections/test systems. Develop and/or update policies and procedures as needed. Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve in all areas of assigned test section/systems. Participate in research and development. Facilitate meetings and committees. Manage Reporting Personnel. Take responsibility for recruitment, selection, on-boarding, development, training, discipline, termination, evaluation, pay, and/or retention. May maintain and/or create position descriptions and/or performance evaluation criteria and goals. * Quality Assurance/Quality Control - Develop and perform routine quality control and quality assurance procedures to assure maintenance of laboratory testing standards.
