Come join Collins Aerospace as a Machinist to work onsite in our Chula Vista, CA facility. In this role you will setup and operate manual and CNC machine shop equipment including mills, lathes, grinders, saws, hones, etc. as required without supervision to machine a wide variety of aerospace hardware to very close tolerances. Work hours are Monday to Friday, 6:30am – 3:00pm.

*This position is based on-site at our Chula Vista, CA facility and will be part of the IAM Local 755.

What You Will Do

  • Plan the sequence of progressive operations by working from blueprints, sketches and other authorized documents. Determine sequence of operations to minimize amount of machining, honing and number of set ups required in the set up and operation of various types of machines.

  • Sets up machines to perform any operation within its capability by positioning, aligning and securing work, improvising and adapting existing tooling and other machining aids. Determines operations to be performed, dimensions and tolerances, cutting tools to be used to minimize required machining operations. May perform cutter preset tasks as required.

  • Determine, set and adjust feeds, speeds, depths, stops, and performs minor oiling as necessary.

  • May use pneumatic tools to perform basic surface grinding. Grinds tools, drill bits and special purpose tools.

  • Set up and operate conventional and numerically controlled machines, such as but not limited to drill presses, jig borers, boring mills, grinders, lathes, duplicating, profiling, milling machines, etc. to completely and independently produce tooling, maintenance, developmental and production parts.

  • Lay out all lines necessary to ascertain machineability and subsequently all lines required to complete machining of production, tooling and developmental specifications.

  • Install special bushings, inserts, etc. as required. Perform identification.

  • Use overhead crane in conjunction with the work described herein.

  • Maintain good shop practice. Use experience and knowledge to assist other operators

What You Must Have

  • AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 4 years of relevant machining experience OR HS diploma, GED and 6 years of relevant experience is required.

  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.

  • Experience with machinist’s hand tools and precision measuring instruments.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience troubleshooting and setting up new part programs

  • Proficient in manual G-Code programming and CAM software, certifications are a plus

  • Experience with 4-axis milling

This position is considered safety sensitive in accordance with FAA Guidelines. Candidate will be subject to drug and alcohol testing per FAA’s regulation 14 CFR part 120, as well as 49 CFR part 40.

The starting rate for this role is $23.69 per hour; however, RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, education/training, and key skills.
