We are looking for people who want to join our ambitious and driven team in the pursuit of excellence for retail grocery project management. You will be part of a team that is maintaining best in class grocery stores for Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods Market, shaping the future of retail spaces! This role will support innovation and expansive growth through cross-functional project oversight.

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for successful execution of projects encompassing repairs and replacement of critical infrastructure systems while ensuring the highest standards for building envelope and food-safety related projects. Provides mentorship for the critical systems and infrastructure team while fostering a positive team environment through a culture of accountability and shared fate.

The right person for this job is an entrepreneurial self-starter with an owner’s perspective. Must have a service mindset and a professional demeanor, with the ability to communicate effectively with business partners at every level. Must be able to work independently in a collaborative, creative, ever-changing and ambiguous environment.

Key job responsibilities

• Repair and replacement of critical infrastructure systems including, but not limited to HVAC, DOAS, refrigeration, vertical transportation, and lighting.

• Completion of special initiatives (i.e., Kirk Key and utility projects, sound attenuation or code compliance concerns, network upgrade coordination, etc.)

• Completion of building envelope and food-safety projects including, but not limited to roofing replacement, flooring replacement, and pest control.

• Responsible for ensuring overall project quality expectations are achieved through effective 3rd-party coordination, direct procurement of equipment, and system commissioning.

• Expert ability to organize and monitor concurrent projects, ensuring execution with a high level of quality, service and communication with all stakeholders, and in accordance with deadlines.

• Look around corners to identify risks and proactively solve to mitigate project impact.

• Effectively influence and communicate with internal and external business partners. Problem solves creatively and successfully negotiate tradeoffs among stakeholders as required to meet project goals.

• Participate in the design development process to ensure documents meet constructability and cost requirements, influencing cross-functional collaboration to improve speed to market and simplify means and methods.

• Ensures responsibility of scope is clear and informs field coordination to improve speed to market and cost controls.

• Provides contractor accountability, improved cost performance, and management of schedule- including lead times for permitting, OFI equipment and jurisdictional inspection protocol. Ensures equipment delivery schedules are well coordinated with GC critical path.

• Provide business decision support and participate/lead special projects and initiatives.

• Evaluate site feasibility and field progress considering customer, delivery access, food-safety pest controls, and general program / operational requirements

• Delivers projects on time and on budget. Effectively manages and reports on project schedules, capital expenditure budgets and operational expenses, ensuring timely follow through and accuracy.

• Establish effective relationships along with an understanding of municipalities permit process and schedules.

• Manage change order negotiations and contract compliance.

• Ensure contractor compliance safety/OSHA requirements are met on all sites to minimize risk.

Basic Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree and 6+ years’ relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience demonstrating progressive responsibility and growth within the industry

  • Strong project management experience and preconstruction/construction experience. Retail operational or program experience a plus.

  • Experience developing and managing budgets, schedules as well as experience negotiating scope of work with Landlord teams.

  • General knowledge of Building Codes.

  • Experience in negotiating commercial contracts.

  • Ability to travel up to 80% based on project workload.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced understanding of retail grocery fixtures, food service equipment and infrastructure complexities and requirements.

  • Creative, critical thinker with advanced analytical skills.

  • Ability to work within an ambiguous environment and manage change.

  • Familiarity with business process documentation and improvement.

  • Self-motivated, able to work both independently and collaboratively within a team and cross-functionally as projects dictate.

  • Familiarity with business process documentation and improvement.

  • Experience with senior-level presentations.

  • Experience with Smartsheet, Sales Force, Procore and similar real estate, project and portfolio management tools.

  • Technical acumen, initiative and leadership required to successfully execute construction projects within a grocery environment, including operating stores.

  • Familiarity with business process documentation and improvement.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines and prioritize workloads.

  • Able to work with technical and non-technical business owners/partners to overcome obstacles and deliver results.

  • Provide business decision support and participate/lead special projects.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Self-motivated, able to work both independently and collaboratively within a team as projects dictate.

  • Ability to conduct financial business case analysis / translate information into useful formats and draw conclusions.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $81,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $181,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
