Robert Half Software Developer in Chicago, Illinois

Description

We are offering a contract to hire employment opportunity for a Ruby on Rails Developer in Chicago, Illinois. This role will focus on maintaining and developing the software platform used to manage the business. You will be responsible for all aspects of development from database architecture to feature building to testing.

Responsibilities:

• Balancing technology choices pragmatically while delivering high-quality work within deadlines

• Leading architecture and software design discussions

• Generating innovative solutions to challenges in partnership with team members and clients

• Ensuring the team has a healthy, prioritized, estimated backlog

• Managing high-level project roadmaps as the team lead for large engagements

• Maintaining relationships with technical leaders

• Writing production-quality code in Ruby and Rails and one other language such as Elixir, Java, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, or React

• Building larger features or subsystems

• Using context-appropriate automated testing to inform software design choices and catch bugs

• Debugging and refactoring pre-existing code to incrementally improve it

• Collaborating with teams using Git, MacOS/Linux, and CI/CD

• Addressing architecture-level concerns such as scalability, security, reliability, and performance

• Leading projects or teams

• Bringing together people from different functions and perspectives in forums that encourage idea sharing, collaboration, and problem solving

• Mentoring and sharing knowledge with colleagues

• Actively seeking out and effectively giving feedback

• Communicating empathically with stakeholders and colleagues

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Software Developer, Software Engineer, or similar role

• Proficiency in Ruby on Rails is mandatory

• Familiarity with Vue.js and other Front-End Frameworks

• Experience in Backend Development

• Excellent understanding of software design and programming principles

• Ability to learn new languages and technologies

• Detail-oriented and excellent organizational skills

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Ability to work as part of a team and independently as needed

• Excellent communication skills

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred.
