Duties and Responsibilities

  • Will receive training to be able to perform techniques as instructed by Principal Investigator (Dr. David Barefield, Cell and Molecular Physiology).

  • Will receive training in animal handling and will be required to work with rodents.

  • Will be required to know or learn proper sterile cell culture techniques in a Biosafety Level 2 environment.

  • Perform basic lab tasks required to complete experiments. May include preparation of reagents solutions, buffers and media.

  • Monitor inventory of essential lab supplies and order additional supplies as necessary. Maintains orderly record of purchases.

  • Help maintain a safe and orderly lab environment.

  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations.

  • Communicate clearly with the PI, and creatively problem-solve

  • Attend weekly department seminars and lab meetings

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Minimum Education and/or Work Experience

Education Required: Bachelors Degree OR equivalent training acquired via work experience or education Preferred: Bachelors Degree Experience Required: None Preferred: 1-2 years of previous job-related experience

Qualifications

The hire would require a Bachelor’s degree in Biological or Chemical Sciences with some hands-on research experience.

The qualified applicant will have the ability to:

  • Analyze and interpret data and meet deadlines.

  • Follow oral and written instructions and established procedures.

  • Maintain accuracy and consistency, conducting themselves ethically.

  • Work as an effective team member, dealing calmly and courteously with people and with excellent verbal communication skills
