Job Title: Research and Development Technician

Job Description

We are hiring for a Research and Development Technician in the Chicago, IL area. This role involves working closely with Sr. Scientists to support multiple projects simultaneously. You will be responsible for preparing and testing various materials, maintaining lab cleanliness and organization, and updating reports in an electronic lab notebook. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative battery technology and work alongside expert scientists in a rapidly growing company.

Responsibilities

  • Support Sr. scientists in multiple projects

  • Weigh and mix powders, load them into the furnace

  • Prepare slurries for testing

  • Maintain a clean lab space, including glassware, crucibles, and other equipment

  • Organize the lab with proper naming and labeling systems for all samples

  • Update reports into an electronic lab notebook

  • Operate small-scale R&D equipment such as hot plates, stir plates, tube furnaces, and pH meters

Essential Skills

  • Bachelors degree in the Sciences (Chemistry preferred)

  • Experience working in a chemistry lab with exposure to corrosive, toxic, flammable, water reactive, and powder hazards (minimum 2 years)

  • Experience with fume hoods and glove boxes is a plus

  • Knowledge of chemistry lab equipment such as pH meters, hot plates, stir plates, and tube furnaces

  • Understanding of chemical hazards/ chemical handling experience, experience with acids, bases, solvents, etc.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with batteries is a plus, but not required

  • Experience with compressed gases and gas cylinders

  • Experience with powders and safety protocols related to powder materials

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions

  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to make observations about abnormal conditions
