About the Department

The TMW Center for Early Learning + Public Health at the University of Chicago develops, tests, and implements evidence-based interventions designed to promote very young children\'s cognitive and social-emotional development, with a priority placed on that of children living in poverty. TMW Center interventions are designed to be overlaid onto existing health, education, and community systems in order to meet families where they already are. The TMW Center has a robust research and development strategy that includes further development and testing of TMW Center interventions; harnessing technology to support behavior change; intervention engagement, and analysis; and furthering strategies to engage parents in the TMW Center\'s interventions across the health, early learning, and social service sectors.

Job Summary

The Project Manager of Parent Coaching and Implementation will develop and implement a new research program focused on utilizing groundbreaking technology to provide parents of children in Head Start with personalized information on how their nurturing talk and interaction builds their children\'s brains. The position will provide on-the-ground program implementation, including a parent coaching model to provide personalized feedback and support regarding children\'s language development. In addition, the position will work closely with TMW Center researchers, technology and app developers, and curriculum developers to ensure the successful design and implementation of the program and provide the foundation to scale technology to other use cases.

Responsibilities

  • Supports TMW Center internal teams to plan and coordinate early pilots at partner sites, including contributing to the development and documentation of the following: recruitment strategy; parent experience and coaching strategy; technology engagement and support strategy; research plans and materials.
  • Actively participates in regular internal TMW Center program design meetings and prepares materials and follow up as needed.
  • Leads parent group meetings and discussions, serve as primary point of contact for program participants and ensures parents are engaged in the program.
  • Conducts targeted outreach and recruitment activities.
  • Provides implementation support, coaching and training to program participants, ensuring a smooth user experience. This includes but is not limited to: regularly visiting program sites and holding in-person as well as virtual check-ins with parents and Head Start centers; ensuring proper implementation and delivery of TMW Center program; tracking data related to these processes and other aspects of implementation as needed; providing participating parents with coaching and feedback related to child language development.
  • Collaborates closely with TMW Center internal teams to gather user feedback and inform program design going forward.
  • Provides assistance in distributing technology, coordination and delivery logistics for technological devices and other materials provided to study sites and participants.
  • Collaborates closely with TMW Center internal technology and app development teams to optimize the usefulness of the technology for program participants.
  • Provides expertise in child and/or language development to the TMW Center team to align technology and app development teams on highest priority features.
  • Builds and nurtures relationships with parents, Head Start centers, and other stakeholders to ensure strong communication and ultimate success between the TMW Center and these individuals and groups
  • Helps identify parents and Head Start centers that may serve as future partners.
  • Applies research principles and relevant subject matter knowledge relevant to administer a research project. With a moderate level of direction, manages lab and/or research-related duties and tasks. Helps develop, design and conduct research projects according to plan.
  • Supports data collection and analytical needs of research projects. Conducts literature reviews and helps write reports and manuscripts. Ensures project compliance with different policies, procedures, directives, and mandates.
  • Takes responsibility for the following non-laboratory duties: transcribing and coding data; developing data collection instruments; presenting research; and recruiting and scheduling research subjects. Acquires higher-level skills and knowledge in the process.
  • Takes responsibility for the following laboratory duties: recognizing abnormal results and varying conditions or procedures to correct problems; setting up and performing experiments. Analyze the meaning, significance, causes, and effects of the subject.
  • Performs other related work as needed.
