Duties and Responsibilities
Duties & Responsibilities:
Maintains and repairs domestic water systems, storm and sanitary piping, and grease basins
Submits plumbing work permits to Cook County (for Health Sciences Campus applicants only)
Must stay current on all City and County plumbing codes
Works closely with contractors on site to ensure work performed meets current plumbing codes
Performs work assignments received, both verbal and through the work order software system
Maintains records of work performed using the work order management software system
Maintains inventory
Performs work assignments to make the campus facilities as safe and secure as possible for all students, staff and faculty
May, at times, be needed to assist with snow removal
Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
A minimum of a high school diploma, GED or trade school diploma and three-five years of related experience in residential, industrial, or commercial setting.
Qualifications
Must have experience in all aspects of the plumbing trade as related to commercial building maintenance
Ability to follow manuals, schematic plans, blueprints, and other specifications required
Must have knowledge of City and/or County code requirements
Ability to use tools of the trade
Ability to work in high and/or confined spaces
Ability to carry materials to perform work functions
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
Must supply their own hand tools
Must be willing to work successfully with other trades to perform job duties
Must be able to work irregular hours if needed, to perform job requirements
Preferred candidates would also have plumbing experience in an University/research environment
– Backflow and RPZ certification preferred.
Certificates/Credentials/Licenses
Current City of Chicago or State of Illinois Plumber’s License
Current State of Illinois Contractor’s License and Insurance (for Health Sciences Campus applicants only)
General Contractor license (for Health Sciences Campus applicants only)
Must have a current Driver’s License in good standing
Must become member of IUOE Local 399 within 90 days of accepting position and maintain good standing with IUOE Local 399
Computer Skills
Knowledge and proficiency with computers
Proficiency with MS Office software (Word, Excel, etc.)
Experience with a work order management system preferred
Supervisory Responsibilities No
