Job Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Student Wellness (AVP), the Medical Director will partner with the AVP in shaping and defining the vision for Medical Services within Student Wellness and developing initiatives and structures to support that vision. The Medical Director is a vital member of the Student Wellness leadership team, collaborating across various functions and offering guidance to campus partners.

The Medical Director will be a champion of change and clinical innovation through the implementation of best practices, the assurance of continuous quality improvement activity, and policies, and procedures that optimize patient care and access. The Medical Director will work closely with the Director of Operations, the Manager of Clinical Operations, and the Director for Quality Management in these endeavors.

The position oversees 9 FTE primary care providers, including MDs, DOs, and NP/APPs, as well as clinical leadership and nursing teams. The Medical Director will provide strong administrative and clinical supervision, ensuring a culture of continuous quality improvement and care, and the skillful management of resources. In addition, they provide oversight for the Medical Services\' \20 clinical and non-clinical staff. Approximately 70% time will be directed toward administrative activities; 30% time will be clinical. The clinic is open from 8 am-5 pm Monday through Friday. Clinical staff are responsible for five call weeks annually.

Responsibilities

Provide medical and clinical supervision and ensure that evidence-based medicine and quality improvement activities are integrated into the delivery of efficient, high quality patient care, and that data collection and utilization reports are integrated into processes of system evaluation and care redesign.

Prepare the service for a successful visit by the AAAHC accreditation team by reviewing existing policies and procedures to align with current best practices.

Assess current organizational arrangements and make recommendations to better achieve Student Wellness\' goals.

Develop a working group to review, revise and develop policies, practices, and procedures around delivery of care and ensure that expectations are understood by all clinical staff.

Ensure compliance with University of Chicago and UChicago Medicine policies and procedures as well as professional and regulatory agencies.

With colleagues in Student Wellness, develop collaborative care models and programs to serve emerging student needs.

Engage with par ners across the UChicago campus to proactively develop and pilot programs to meet students where they are, to extend student wellness.

Optimize the use of technology to enhance quality, capacity, and efficiency throughout the service.

Develop processes for identifying and reporting concerning trends or events and to manage risk broadly.

Ensure that Medical Services staffing and practices reflect UChicago Wellness\'s and the University\'s commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Oversee and participate in rotation and delivery of after-hour on-call coverage.

Foster a work climate that encourages positive staff morale, uphold open communication, and foster a team-based approach to care. Promote and influence a positive working environment

Serves as the clinical expert for the specific patient population and is accountable for the implementation evidence based practice. Informs patients regarding general preventative care practices as well as individualized care plans.

Manages people and resources to ensure safe and efficient patient care operations. Partners with other divisions to ensure optimal patient throughput. Collaborates with the team to ensure application of safe staffing and scheduling guidelines.
