What you'll be doing

As a Governance & Controls Advisor, you will support the US Private, Personal and Digital Banking (PP&D) strategy and self-governance through partnering with first and second lines of defense to enable effective risk management. In support of the PP&D management, you will assist with risk assessments designed to identify and measure financial and non-financial risks as well as with the development, design and enhancement of commensurate internal controls. In addition, you will support tracking and facilitating remediation of risk items, reporting incidents, facilitating risk awareness and reporting, and monitoring emerging and key risks that may impact the businesses ability to execute strategic vision.

How you'll succeed

  • Collaborate with management to understand activities executed across each business (Private Banking, Personal Banking, Community Development, Client Support Center, Digital Banking and Consumer Lending), document processes and recommend enhancements designed to promote sound risk management.

  • Contribute to the identification, documentation and maintenance of key and non-key controls owned/executed by the line of business.

  • Review changes and promote adherence to applicable policies, standards and guidelines issued by Independent Risk Management and Control Groups.

  • Work with management to develop remediation action plans designed to address control vulnerabilities and enhancements and perform sustainability testing and effective challenge.

  • Provide advisory to the business line to support alignment to governance and controls leading practice; effectively challenge current/proposed business-specific processes to promote adoption of efficient, effective and risk-based approach.

  • Lead and coordinate key risk deliverables for the business line including risk and control self-assessments of financial, non-financial and strategic risks, including, but not limited to operational and regulatory risks.

  • Provide input and support for testing and monitoring activities and work with various risk partners to identify gaps and develop remediation plans.

  • Serve as liaison to review requests for information (RFIs) and vet materials in connection with assurance including Internal Audit, Regulatory exams, 2LoD testing, etc.

  • Identify and escalate emerging risks, issues and trends in the form of meaningful risk reporting to inform risk management decision-making.

  • Build and maintain working relationships with stakeholders across the different corporate functions and senior management leaders.

Who you are

  • You have seven or more years of experience in consumer banking, financial services consulting, or risk management.

  • You’re a certified professional. Certification in the following fields preferred, but not required: Regulatory Compliance, Anti-Money Laundering, Fraud, Information Security or Privacy.

  • You have demonstrated experience building and executing first line or second line of defense enterprise risk management programs.

  • You possess strong interpersonal, written, verbal and presentation skills; ability to articulate complex issues concisely and communicate effective and comfortably with senior leadership.

  • You have superior time management skills, with ability to effectively prioritize multiple initiatives to meet deadlines in a dynamic and rapidly-changing environment.

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft applications (i.e., Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, Excel, Visio).
