Job Description

BASIC FUNCTION : This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals pursuing a career in counseling to gain hands-on experience in a supportive environment. Provide counseling services and mental health support to clients of the Chicago Lighthouse and all related activities therewith.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Deliver clinical mental health services to individuals who are blind or visually impaired and/or have a disability;

  • Conduct individual, group and family counseling sessions under the supervision of a licensed psychotherapist;

  • Assist in diagnostic evaluations and treatment planning, via multi-modalities of care;

  • Provide direct support to clients in various settings such as hospitals or community centers;

  • Engage in mental health counseling utilizing evidence-based techniques;

  • Conduct sessions in a virtual environment;

  • Prepare required reports, responses to referrals, and other appropriate documentation;

  • Collaborate with agency research staff on the initiation and establishment of future research protocols in partnership with area programs;

  • Maintain accurate and confidential medical documentation adhering to all HIPAA regulations and related procedures;

  • Adhere to the code of ethics for your discipline.

REQUIREMENTS :

  • Enrolled in a graduate clinical counseling, marriage and family therapy or clinical-rehabilitation psychology program and have completed clinical coursework, is required

  • Experience working with geriatric populations is preferred

  • Knowledge of evidence-based interventions is beneficial

  • Ability to perform diagnostic evaluations and interpret assessment results

  • Proficiency in medical documentation and record-keeping

  • Successful completion of a background check;

  • Bi-lingual (Spanish speaking) preferred
