Summary:
The Cardiac Cath Radiologic Technologist 's primary responsibilities will be in the area of physiologic monitoring, medical instrumentation operation, use of portable and permanent fluoroscopic and digital x-ray systems, and other diagnostic and therapeutic devices. These skills and knowledge will be utilized in a variety of pediatric and adult diagnostic and interventional procedures. The Cardiac Cath Radiologic Technologist will be willing and able to coordinate the activities of other technical personnel assigned to these areas. The Cardiac Cath Radiologic Technologist will be willing and able to be on-call in a primary or secondary role 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The optimal candidate must live within thirty minutes travel time from Rush Medical Center. The Cardiac Cath Radiologic Technologist is considered to be a high-level technical person possessing advanced knowledge in cardiac hemodynamics, mechanical and electronic medical instrumentation who has demonstrated an ability to work within a team and independently.
Required Job Qualifications:
•High school diploma or its equivalent.
•Formal training in an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
*Valid ARRT License
•Valid (IEMA) Illinois Emergency Management Agency License
•Valid BLS certification required; ACLS certification required within six months of hire.
•Able to take call on evenings, nights, and weekends. Call response time is 30minutes.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
•Two years’ experience as a Cardiac Cath Radiologic Technologist.
•valid RCIS - Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist certification).
Physical Demands:
• Able to stand up to three hours wearing a 40-pound lead apron.
• Able to work in an environment with limited exposure to radiation.
• Able to work in dim light for three or more hours.
• Able to assist in moving patients up to 425 pounds from cart to procedure table.
• Able to manipulate small knobs in limited workspace.
• Able to maneuver around floor and ceiling mounted x-ray equipment.
Responsibilities:
1.The Cardiac Cath Radiologic Technologist will provide age-specific care.
The Cardiac Cath Radiologic Technologist will at times be required to directly assist the attending cardiologist during procedures by setting up the instrument table, prepping and draping the patient, assisting with catheter insertions, performing coronary injections and table panning as well as final clean up and patient transport after case completion.
The Cardiac Cath Radiologic Technologist may be requested to circulate during a procedure. In this capacity the Cardiac Cath Radiologic Technologist will monitor the status and condition of the patient and act as an unsterile assistant to personnel directly performing the procedure. A thorough knowledge of supply location will be necessary.
The Cardiac Cath Radiologic Technologist's primary responsibilities will include hemodynamic monitoring and recording, scrub, and radiologic recording.
5.The Cardiac Cath Radiologic Technologist will set-up, calibrate and operate the instrumentation required to perform and document hemodynamic and eletrocardiographic measurements during diagnostic and interventional adult and pediatric procedures.
6.The Cardiac Cath Radiologic Technologist will be responsible for the technical operation and insofar as possible, the maintenance of radiographic, fluoroscopic, video, and digital processing equipment.
7.The Cardiac Cath Radiologic Technologist will be responsible for the integrity as well as the archival of the patient’s procedural data; both radiographic and hemodynamic.
- Due to the complex nature and potential hazards within the Cardiovascular Catheterization Unit the Cardiac Cath Radiologic Technologist will be required to help maintain a safe and organized work environment.
9.The Cardiac Cath Radiologic Technologist will be responsible for the maintenance of CD archival systems. The Cardiac Cath Radiologic Technologist will make available to cardiologists images of particular patients soon after the procedure completion.
10.The Cardiac Cath Radiologic Technologist may be called upon to perform certain additional tasks that may be assigned by the Medical Director or the Clinical Manager of the Cardiovascular Catheterization Unit.
The Cardiac Cath Radiologic Technologist will be expected to complete all necessary data forms and enter patient billing at the completion of the procedures. Patient’s hospital charges will be reconciled with the department coder in a timely manner and corrections will be made according to hospital policy.
The Cardiac Cath Radiologic Technologist will attend outside educational programs and weekly Cardiovascular Catheterization Unit meetings for staff development.
13.The Cardiac Cath Radiologic Technologist may assist in developing and implementing staff educational programs.
14.The Cardiac Cath Radiologic Technologist will assist with supervision of students and vendors.
15.The Cardiac Cath Radiologic Technologist will assist with the orientation of new staff, cardiology fellows, and any other personnel.
16.The Cardiac Cath Radiologic Technologist may assist with in servicing staff on new equipment ordevices.
