Career Advancement serves a student population of approximately 6,000 arts and sciences undergraduate students, in addition to alumni who have graduated within the last five years. Career Advancement plays a vital role in ensuring our students\' success after graduation. Job Summary

Reporting to the Deputy Director of the Office of Career Advancement, the Assistant Director of Student Employment will help undergraduate students secure strong career outcomes by supporting their experiences with on-campus employment during their time in the College. This position will also support campus departments hiring undergraduate students and ensure all undergraduates hired complete onboarding and orientation.

Key responsibilities will include frequent communication with students, 1:1 career advising, tracking student orientation compliance, planning career development programming for students, creating resources for campus employers and maintaining relationships with on-campus employers in students\' areas of interest.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees orientation required of all first-time campus employees. Tracks student completion, keeps materials up-to-date, and communicates with participants.
  • Identifies and sources on-campus employment opportunities that match students\' career interests.
  • Communicates frequently with students to share on-campus opportunities and help them stay on track for success.
  • Tracks student progress in securing on-campus employment opportunities using Salesforce.
  • Provides individualized career advising to students seeking on-campus employment opportunities.
  • Assists students with preparing resumes, cover letters, and other application materials.
  • Supports campus departments hiring students by publicizing opportunities and creating sample job descriptions and other recruiting materials.
  • Plans professional development events on relevant topics, such as job interviews, resume writing, etc.
  • Reaches out to campus departments inviting them to hire students.
  • Builds strong relationships with colleagues in partner offices across UChicago and the Medical Center.
  • With a moderate level of guidance and direction, creates reports on student progress and outcomes for departmental and University leadership.
  • Advises and counsels students concerning employment opportunities and careers by acting as a liaison between students and prospective employers.
  • Conducts mock interviews, reviews resumes and cover letters, and coordinates other interview related programming in both individual and group settings.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
