JOB TITLE:                 Aquatic Manager

CLASSIFICATION:   Exempt 

DEPARTMENT:        CRE/Aquatics

SUPERVISOR:          Community Recreation and Events Director & Deputy Director

SALARY:                    $74,361 to $111,541 Annually

 

*          GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION                                                                                                                *

 

Direct, manage, supervise, and coordinate the aquatic staff, programs and activities. Coordinate assigned activities with other City departments, divisions, and outside agencies. Provide administrative support to the Community Recreation and Events Director.

 

*PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES                                                                             *

 

  • Assume management responsibility for all aquatic services, operations, training, planning, and maintenance including the municipal pools and beach operations.
  • Formulate, manage, and participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; recommend, within Departmental policy, appropriate service, and staffing levels.
  • Select, train, motivate and evaluate aquatics personnel; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures.

     

     

     

  • Participate in the development and administration of the aquatic program annual budget; direct the forecast of funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor and approve. expenditures; provide input on needed adjustments.

  • Serve as liaison for the Aquatics division with other City departments, divisions, and outside agencies; negotiate and resolve sensitive and controversial issues. 
  • Oversee all public relations operations regarding aquatics operations; prepare public service announcements, media releases and advertisements. Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints.

     

*SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES                                                                                                               *

 

  • Monitor program compliance with federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations related to the provision of aquatic related services.
  • Maintain a thorough awareness of new developments in the field of aquatics; incorporate new developments as appropriate into aquatic safety and maintenance.
  • Recent developments, current literature and information related to aquatic facilities maintenance.
  • Allocate limited resources in a cost-effective manner.
  • Ensure cleanliness and general upkeep of aquatic facilities. 
  • Perform other duties & responsibilities as necessary. 

*KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES                                                                           *

 

  • Knowledge of supervision, training, and performance evaluation principles.
  • Knowledge of basic operations, services and activities of municipal aquatic facilities maintenance and safety.
  • operation, repair and maintenance of swimming pools, equipment, and facilities.
  • Knowledge and understanding of hazards and safety precautions applicable to pool maintenance.
  • Knowledge of chemical water treatment systems and pool water testing. Current pool maintenance codes and regulations.
  • Knowledge of modern office procedures and record keeping.
  • Knowledge of basic procedures, methods and techniques of budget preparation and control.
  • Knowledge of pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Knowledge to develop and administer program goals, objectives, and procedures.
  • Skills to select, supervise, train, and evaluate staff.
  • Skills to make recommendations in support of program division, and departmental goals.
  • Skills to research, analyze, and evaluate new service delivery methods and techniques.
  • Skills in interpreting and explaining City policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships.
  • Ability to manage, direct and coordinate the work of lower-level staff.
  • Ability to climb ladders or steps, such as getting onto roofs and into sump pits.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a current Lifeguard, First-Aid, and CPR/AED certification.

     

*QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB   *

 

Required:

High school diploma or GED required and five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in an Aquatics center, or similar facility; with three (3) years of supervisory responsibility. Retail and customer service experience and training. One (1) year of increasingly responsible experience with pool chemistry, pool maintenance, general building maintenance, and staff supervision.  Must have a current certified pool operator certification.

 

Preferred:

  • Associates degree and three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in an Aquatics center, or similar facility; with two (2) years of management/supervisory responsibility.  Preference for candidates that have a current LGI Certification and a current CPR/First Aid Instructor Certification. 

     

     

*PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS                                                                           *

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, reading, and writing. The employee is also required to maintain physical condition necessary for operating assigned equipment, walking, standing, kneeling, repeated bending or sitting for prolonged periods of time and lifting to 50 pounds. Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of making sound decisions demonstrating intellectual capabilities.

 

Working Environment:

 

Outdoor and indoor environments; irregular working hours; working with or in water; slippery/uneven surfaces; exposure to inclement weather, chemicals, fumes, and solvents. Climbing to a height of greater than five (5) feet.
