Job Description

Technical writer to support Surface Ship Torpedo Defense (SSTD) systems technical data documentation requirements for US Navy and Foreign Military Sales (FMS)

  • Provide technical writing support for the review and development of SSTD technical procedures, processes, and manuals that are published in MS Office applications, Adobe PDFs and IETM’s.

  • Gather, process, analyze, reconcile and enter SSTD systems engineering data and fleet modernization data in support of Ship Alteration Systems, Temporary Alteration Records, Engineering Change Orders, Engineering Change Proposals, Navy Training System Plans and Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals.

  • Collaborate with other team members in the development, production and distribution of SSTD documentation materials within GDIT and to various government customers.

Education

  • Associates Degree in any field with 3+ years of professional experience in technical writing (additional experience, education and training may be considered in lieu of degree)

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with technical personnel developing and publishing technical materials

  • Experience developing and publishing Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) using SGML applications such as Arbortext or MadCap Flare

  • Background supporting Configuration Management

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat software applications

  • Previous US Navy ASW background preferred, but not required

  • Secret clearance or eligible to obtain

  • Must be a US Citizen

The likely hourly rate for this position is between $30.64 - $41.46. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
