Chesapeake Regional Healthcare MRI Tech , -Eligible for a Sign-on Bonus of up to $21,000!- in Chesapeake, Virginia

The MRI Technologist performs all duties associated with acquisition, processing, submission for interpretation and archiving of MRI images; responsible for the quality of patient care; performance of daily activities, maintenance, and quality control performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs routine to complex magnetic resonance procedures and related techniques, producing images at the request of and for interpretation by a licensed independent practitioner.

  • Level 2 MR Personnel trained and educated in the broader aspects of MR safety issues, including but not limited to issues related to the potential for RF-related thermal loading or burns and direct neuromuscular excitation from rapidly changing gradients.

  • Reviews all diagnostic imaging physician orders and follows written and/or verbal protocols and instructions. All questionable orders are reviewed by Radiologist.

  • Communicate equipment malfunctions and low inventory levels to the appropriate supervisor/lead.

  • Educate patients and families regarding the exam and answer any questions as appropriate.

  • Perform quality assurance, visual preventative safety inspections and report dangerous department or equipment conditions to the appropriate personnel.

  • Demonstrates understanding of human cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, pathology, radiopharmacology, and medical terminology.

  • Ensure physician's order and patient's clinical history information is documented and available for the Radiologist.

  • Review patient history and screening questions/answers to ensure patient is safe to have the exam.

  • Assumes responsibility for patient needs during procedures by observing change in status, making appropriate intervention, or contacting primary care giver for instructions.

  • Identifies, prepares, positions patient, and competently performs procedures by using established MR protocols or as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner for diagnostic interpretation or intervention, to achieve the highest quality image.

  • Performs venipuncture and maintains intravenous access as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.

  • Identifies, prepares, and/or administers medications as prescribed by and under the direction of a licensed independent practitioner in accordance with state and federal regulations.

  • Evaluates images for technical quality, ensuring proper identification is recorded.

  • Identifies and manages emergency situations.

  • Conducts POC Creatinine clearance testing in accordance with established MR protocols or as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner for diagnostic interpretation.

  • Knowledge of emergency shut-down procedures and how to properly react to a quench.

  • Selects appropriate pulse sequences with consideration given to established protocols and other factors influencing data acquisition parameters.

  • Manipulates and reconstructs digital data for display or hard copy records, ensuring proper identification is evident.

  • Maintains archival storage of digital data as appropriate.

  • Assists in maintaining supply inventory.

  • Follows the established Safety Standards, Policy, and Procedures to ensure a safe environment in the MRI zones for self, patients, visitors, and staff.

  • Directs Imaging Technologist Assistants as needed.

  • Performs preceptor duties, as necessary for new staff.

  • Establishes ownership of clinical area by taking pride in appearance and readiness of exam rooms, equipment, and supplies.

  • Takes the initiative to help other modalities/areas of the Imaging Center as assigned or when workload/area allows.

Education and Experience

Minimum Required Education: Graduation from an accredited Radiologic Technology program or MRI Program.

Preferred Education: N/A

Experience: Previous MRI experience preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Applicants must have ARRT-MRI or ARMRIT certification or ARRT registered, and MRI certified within two years of employment. Must be BLS certified.
