Job Description: Soups and Sweets Instructor

Reports to: Soups and Sweets Manager, Disability Services Department

Primary Responsibilities: To instruct and evaluate the students in the Soups and Sweets Culinary Training Program, and assist the Soups and Sweets Manager with all programmatic needs

Schedule: Part-Time – 24 hours per week

Salary Range: $21-$24 per hour

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Provide culinary instruction and support for individuals in the Soups & Sweets Program

  • Perform task analysis in the kitchen to break down the culinary tasks into teachable components.

  • Assist with the development and preparation of the Culinary Training Manual

  • Assists with the intake and screening of potential students

  • Assist with developing the training calendar

  • Maintain contact list of trainees

  • Maintain attendance of trainees

  • Secondary contact of communication between the trainees, their families and Soups and Sweets program (i.e. class schedule or changes in schedule, issues in training class, transportation issues)

  • Assist with development of Work Readiness Curriculum

  • Co-lead discussions during Work Readiness Classes

  • With the assistance of the Manager, conduct evaluations as required by the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services (DVRS)

  • Document student progress daily as needed for students funded through the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD)

  • With the assistance of the Manager, maintain compliance for any students funded through DDD, including developing:

  • Annual Report

  • Emergency Cards

  • Fire Drill Reports

  • Help mediate any conflicts among participants in the program

  • Monitor students’ progress through frequent communication with the Manager and Disability Services Director

  • Monitors students’ safety at the training site

  • Complete incident reports, as needed

  • Facilitate appropriate social interactions among group participants to simulate actual work environments

  • Assist with outreach of Soups & Sweets Culinary Training Program, as needed

  • Assist with the inventory, packaging and delivering of Soups & Sweets products, as needed

  • Assist with food preparation for JFCS events, as needed

  • Other duties as assigned as needed

  • Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology or a related field with at least two years’ experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and other professional staff in a compassionate and professional manner

  • Knowledge of culinary skills preferred

  • Experience with customer-based operations preferred

  • Onboarding and training requirements to remain in compliance with DDD and D

Valid driver’s license, registration, insurance, and good driving record
