Summary:

Performs prescribed procedures of the sleep laboratory under the direction of a physician in accordance with established policies, practices and standards.

Responsibilities:

EDUCATION

• Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy

• Must possess valid New York State Respiratory Therapist, Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential.

• If Non-Registered, Sleep Technologist by the ABSM, BRPT, or NBRC

• Must be enrolled in or have completed the A-STEP Online Self Study Modules within two years of hire.

• Be NYSED Authorized Polysomnographic Technologist

• BLS/CPR certification required within three months of hire.

• Be registered in Sleep Technology or accepted to sit for the registry examination through one of the following organizations:

• American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM)

• Registered Sleep Technologist (RST)

• National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)

• Registered Respiratory Therapist - Sleep Disorder Specialist (RRT-SDS)

• Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT)

• Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT)

EXPERIENCE

• Three (3) years of previous sleep clinical experience with RPSGT preferred, however new graduates with a Respiratory Therapist license will be considered.

• Orientation and training to the essential functions of the position is expected to be completed during the introduction period.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

• Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills.

• Must possess the ability to assess/interpret patient data and draw appropriate conclusions.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Occasional exposure to infectious diseases/blood and body fluids.

• May require variable work schedules including overnight shifts
