Xylem Painter -Industrial/Manufacturing 2nd shift in Cheektowaga, New York

Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:

  • Perform work requiring a thorough knowledge of practices and techniques, and operation of various types of equipment, tools, fixtures and instruments.

  • Plans and carries out all the tasks related to assembling, testing, paint preparation, painting and packaging of any assigned product.

  • Verifies all material used is correct (quality, type, quantity, etc.) and properly identified, prior to the start of work.

  • Assembles, tests, paints and packages units and parts to conform to drawings, special instructions, procedures etc. Verifies satisfactory test results and documents as required.

  • Cleans/prepares unit/parts as required prior to painting.

  • Receives instructions, interprets requirements and performs required operations. Instructions may be provided through checklists, drawings, routings, procedures, etc.

  • Recommend tooling and equipment necessary to support production. Maintains the inventory levels of stock paint.

  • Cuts spacers and tierods as required to support assembly operations.

  • Obtains material, fixtures and tools necessary to perform assigned duties. Rig and operate crane, forklift truck, handcart, etc. to handle, move, and position parts and/or units within or between departments.

  • Identifies parts with contract, model number, heat number, part number or other markings as directed.

  • Obtains material, fixtures and tools required to perform assigned duties.

  • Cleans and verifies component cleanliness is per specification, customer requirement and/or procedure.

  • Strictly adheres to start up, cleaning and shut down procedures/directions for all paint equipment..

  • Installs paint filters correctly and ensures they are in place during painting operations. Monitirs filter performance (using manometer) and replaces filters as directed or as manometer level indicates.

  • Disposes of paint filters, paints, and related paint materials in accordance with all regulatory agency requirements.

  • Maintain daily usage sheets (req’d by NYSDEC State Facility Air Permit)

  • Respirators will be issued to painters at the discretion of management based on industrial hygiene reports, when the airborne contaminant concentrations are unknown and if the company identifies a potential respiratory hazard.

  • Sign off on paperwork (router, checklist, or other documents) and/or perform system entries per procedure or as directed to indicate operator has inspected his/her work and it conforms to the applicable fabrication requirements (drawings, specs, codes, etc.) and to maintain status of fabrication.

  • Verify all gauges and measuring tools are within proper calibration dates.

  • Lubricate and clean tools/equipment as necessary.

  • Each person is responsible for the quality of work and inspection, checking to insure that all product or pieces meet specifications and quantities without deviation and report any such deviations.

  • Perform daily safety checks on power vehicles and record findings on checkoff sheets.

  • Required personal protective equipment (PPE) will be worn, kept clean and properly maintained. Participate in personal air and noise sampling when directed.

  • Observe all safety and shop rules. Report all safety concerns to the department supervisor.

  • Assists and/or trains new employees in job classification.

  • Maintain good housekeeping and safe environment throughout work area(s), sweeps area(s), clears debris, arranges product, etc. on a daily basis to assure this. Notifies supervisor of any unsafe conditions. Maintains paint locker cleanliness and order. Thinners, solvents, and other flammable liquids must be stored in safety cans and remain closed unless material is being transferred. Grounding and bonding procedures must be strictly adhered too.

  • Hourly Rate: $22.27 plus shift differential
