EPB Energy Rates & Pricing Accountant in Chattanooga, Tennessee

JOB SUMMARY

The Energy Rates & Pricing Accountant is responsible for analyzing TVA rate structures, ensuring accurate billing, and developing customer rate strategies. The Energy Rates & Pricing Accountant will also contribute to the financial reporting process and maintain accurate accounting records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct a thorough analysis of proposed TVA rate adjustments and rate changes. Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external parties to ensure a comprehensive understanding and develop a strategic response.

  • Review and analyze TVA invoicing to ensure accuracy and alignment with contract terms.

  • Understand power cost drivers to effectively develop customer rates and pricing strategies.

  • Possess a thorough understanding of structures and options available within the TVA contract.

  • Partner with Key Customer Engineers to understand customers’ specific needs and energy consumption patterns.

  • Develop clear and concise communication materials to explain TVA rate structures. Regularly analyze and present trends to all levels of leadership.

  • Use statistical methods, financial modeling, and data analysis techniques to create and deploy financial dashboards, variance reports, and profitability models to support informed decision-making.

  • Assist in coordinating the preparation of monthly Financial Statements, the Annual Budget, and the Annual Report. Ensure that errors are corrected, and the monthly financials are completed within an average of seven working days.

  • Research, verify, and enter adjusting entries to the general ledger, as required, to correct postings to incorrect account numbers and/or jobs.

  • Serve as team leader on special projects as needed.

  • Keep supervisor informed of accounting related activities and issues.

  • Prepare analysis of business activities and present findings and business options to members of management.

  • Work with EPB’s accounting related systems to make process modifications and develop reports.

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field with successful completion of a minimum of 24 semester hours of accounting courses.

  • A minimum of 3-5 years related experience and/or training.

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications; strong qualitative, quantitative, and analytical skills; demonstrated ability to excel in a team environment; strong and effective interpersonal skills; strong and effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated skills to deal effectively with customers and employees and to understand detailed processes and procedures.

  • Demonstrated ability to collect, process, analyze and organize large quantities of detailed information into logical, concise reports and/or presentations.

  • Demonstrated ability to obtain proficiency in the use of computerized software and office equipment.

  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrated experience in processing data with high speed and accuracy.

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness, and creativity in situations involving various duties, often characterized by frequent changes.

    CERTIFICATIONS & OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in state of residence and demonstrate safe and responsible operation of motor vehicles.

  • A thorough understanding of factors that drive electricity consumption patterns and how they affect production costs.

  • Ability to collect, process, analyze, and organize large quantities of detailed information into logical, concise reports and/or presentations.

  • Ability to obtain proficiency in computerized software and office equipment.

  • Ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness, and creativity in situations involving various duties, often characterized by frequent changes.
