General Summary:

This is the fifth in a five-level career path. Individuals in this position are responsible for planning and delivering multiple large-scale, highly visible initiatives by leveraging the appropriate methodology and processes in a fast-paced environment that crosses a significant (e.g. 6+) number of parallel activities across business and technical departments.

The Program Manager should have both classic and Agile IT project management experience and be able to leverage the two disciplines as appropriate. They are expected to perform at a high level, leading strategic, cross-functional and cross-company, business facing and technical initiatives and have a proven track record of being solution and delivery focused.

• Experience in managing technology projects

• Experience in defining and tracking metrics

• Ability to communicate effectively at sr. levels

• Understanding of architecture practices

• Insurance industry knowledge is a nice to have

Required Software skills: typical Office suite of apps, diagramming software such as Miro or Lucid Charts, Kanban board / agile project mgmt. like Rally or Monday.com

Manage the EA programs and processes to drive increased impact from initiatives such as tech portfolio mgmt, technical debt triage, AAA planning and execution, and other EA initiatives.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Plans, monitors and controls the stages of projects including: delivery of products from team managers with product delivery responsibility, and ensuring project and program closure is achieved properly whilst appropriately managing the project budget.

• Highly collaborative, energetic team player with demonstrated ability to be flexible, diplomatic, persistent, and energetic. Comfortable with ambiguity, open to change, working in a fast-paced and fluid environment. Able to navigate and be successful in both “start-up” and established, larger company environments.

• Acts as a role model for project management professionalism, critical thinking, and setting productivity pace. Promotes a financial focus and emphasizes business value metrics.

• Plans the realization of business benefit so that the success of each project can be measure retrospectively by reference to the performance of its persistent products in the business environments.

• Provides leadership, direction and integration of activities across multiple teams to ensure successful execution.

• Provides visibility for and coordinates dependencies across multiple teams (within and outside of assigned organization).

• Identifies, proposes and initiates software process improvement activities within the organization.

• Owns and drives opportunities that will have a measurable effect on operational effectiveness.

• Identifies, analyzes and deploys appropriate management strategies for the risks associated with projects. Monitors risks as their proximity, likelihood and impact evolve and modifies plans for their management appropriately.

• Participates in cross-departmental planning and collaboration as needed.

• Builds and maintains effective working relationships with counterparts in other business and technology organizations to ensure program alignment with broader technology and business plans.

• Resolves conflicts and pursues solutions that all parties can support while furthering the goals of the organization.

• Manages, tracks and reports, both written and verbal program updates appropriate for various levels of stakeholders, including executive levels.

• Collaborates with scrum masters, scrum of scrums or otherwise, where necessary to determine the progress of feature delivery against plans within the program and helps to remove impediments at the program level when necessary.

Job Specifications

• Bachelors degree required, or relevant professional qualification/acceptable industry experience

• Has 8+ years of experience with a focus in finance, project management, systems, or IT is preferred

• Demonstrates advanced understanding of and experience with Agile, Scaled Agile and the overall Product Development Lifecycle

• Has excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

• Strong team player and able to effectively collaborate across multiple stakeholder groups

• Comfortable with ambiguity and able to translate into tangible action plans.

• Able to create a variety of documents, process maps, dashboards, and presentations suitable for technical, business and executive audiences using a variety of tools

• Demonstrates program management, communication, and leadership skills on large, complex initiatives ($1M+)

• Project/program management certifications like PMP, Prince2, CSM, CSPO, CSP and/or CSC are a plus

• Meets the standards for this position, as defined in the Talent Management Framework

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

$109,100.00-$213,300.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.
