The Analysis Innovation Department within MITRE’s Intelligence Center develops creative solutions to evolve complex, mission essential capabilities, bringing expertise in developing analytic solutions, data science, and workforce and business process maturation. We define, architect, design and prototype creative ways to integrate and fuse all-source intelligence and new sources of data to empower analysts and inform the programmatic and technical direction of new and existing programs.

The Department develops unique ways to receive and integrate all-source intelligence, increase sharing of tactical and strategic intelligence, support situational awareness and specific missions, better integrate intelligence and operations, and create products that are more useful to the consumer.

The successful candidate will be passionate about designing and developing capabilities to solve real world problems.

Seeking a Senior Information Systems Engineer with a strong background in design and operation of enterprise IT systems. This individual will have an opportunity to have an impact across several sponsor outcomes, influence strategic direction, and identify and shape new opportunities. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, possess strong analytical skills, and be able to exercise interdisciplinary collaboration to solve complex IT problems.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and contribute to enterprise information technology gap analysis

  • Evaluate technical implementations and propose improvements/alternatives for enterprise IT and cyber security capabilities

  • Design and engineer prototypes to improve sponsor capabilities in enterprise service offerings, cloud computing, and cyber security

  • Advise sponsor on technical solutions and capabilities for cyber automation

  • Identify and propose solutions to technical, procedural and governance challenges related to enterprise IT and cyber security

  • Author standards and procedures for the consistent, secure implementation of technical solutions

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cyber Security, or related field

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in enterprise IT cyber operations, risk management, and/or vulnerability management

  • Demonstrable expertise in one or more of the following domains: Cloud Computing, Software Development, Software Assurance, Cyber Security, Zero Trust Architecture

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to diagnose complex software and network issues

  • Excellent communication and writing skills; ability to present complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.

  • Candidate must hold active DoD Top Secret Clearance

  • This position requires a minimum of 5 days a week on-site.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years of relevant experience; or an advanced degree with relevant experience with ability to immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience

  • Expertise with Amazon Web Services and / or Microsoft Azure

  • Experience with software development in one or more languages, e.g., Python, Ruby, Java, Go

  • Experience evaluating IT systems for vulnerabilities; e.g., Common Weakness Exposure (CWE) list, OWASP Top 10

  • Familiarity with DoD and OIC CIO policy, standards and guidelines

  • Experience with Zero Trust Architecture and/or Cloud Security concepts

  • Able to brief and tactfully engage with senior customers/sponsors (e.g. government personnel, vendor senior staff)

  • Experience authoring organizational standards or procedures for information technology

  • Experience with one or more cyber security and defense technologies (SIEM, SOAR, IDS/IPS, EDR/XDR, CTI)

  • Experience with the Risk Management Framework and the NIST 800-53 catalog of controls

  • Active TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline

  • Experience with Git version control software

  • Experience with containerized services and orchestration tools (Docker Swarm, Kubernetes)

  • Experience building web applications using languages such as JavaScript (Vue, React), Django, and R-Shiny

  • Experience with HTTP REST, HTTP SOAP, AJAX, web services, and related emerging web standards.

  • Experience with big data, distributed systems, cloud platforms (Hadoop, AWS, Spark, Kafka, etc.), and microservices

  • Familiarity with working in cloud-based environments like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure and their machine learning tools.

  • Experience visualizing multi-dimensional data using tools like Tableau, ggplot2, Plotly, matplotlib, seaborn, or D3.js
