The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) (https://engineering.virginia.edu/bme) at the University of Virginia (UVA) (https://www.virginia.edu/) seeks a Director of the Masters of Engineering (ME) Program in Biomedical Engineering (https://engineering.virginia.edu/department/biomedical-engineering/academics/graduate-programs/me-biomedical-engineering) to prepare students for careers as leaders in biomedical industries. The ME Program takes advantage of the BME Department’s unique position within both the UVA School of Engineering and Applied Science (https://engineering.virginia.edu/) and the UVA School of Medicine (https://med.virginia.edu/) by offering students interdisciplinary training experiences and clinical immersion experiences, as they work in teams to solve real-world medical problems
Duties will include:
overseeing and running the program, curriculum, and courses,
advertising the program to prospective students and recruiting students to the program,
teaching courses in both the ME Program curriculum and in the undergraduate curriculum,
networking and interacting with clinical faculty to identify and manage student engineering design projects,
mentoring student design project teams,
advising and mentoring students as they progress through ME Program,
assisting students with finding post-graduation employment,
serving on the BME Graduate Program Committee,
serving as the principal liaison between the ME Program and school-level and university-level leadership,
representing the BME Department as the ME Program liaison with external entities and partners, and
other duties may be assigned, as needed.
Compensation for this full-time academic general faculty (AGF) position in the School of Engineering and Applied Science is contingent upon experience. This position will have renewable three-year contracts, with future contract renewal decisions being dependent on the robustness and sustainability of the ME program, as evidenced by, for example, its ability to produce at least 20 graduates per year.
Education: Candidates must have a Ph.D. or equivalent experience in Biomedical Engineering or a related discipline and a track record of teaching and mentoring biomedical engineers.
Experience: Prior classroom teaching and/or student design project mentoring experience
