Job Information
University of Virginia Clinical Health Psychologist, Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences in Charlottesville, Virginia
The Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia is seeking a tenure-ineligible Assistant or Associate Professor-level Clinical Health Psychologist to join its clinical faculty.
The position has a clinical emphasis with primary responsibilities in the Behavioral Medicine Center (https://med.virginia.edu/psychiatry/sections/behavioral-medicine-center/) of providing outpatient evaluations and evidence-based interventions for individuals diagnosed with a variety of medical and psychological conditions.
We have experienced significant growth in clinical health psychology services at UVA Health over the past few years and anticipate continued expansion. We maintain a strong commitment to program development and, as a result, psychology faculty have built successful and innovative specialty programs in consultation liaison, learner wellness, pediatrics, and transplantation. Ongoing areas of program development also include cardiovascular health, sleep medicine, and weight management. We strongly encourage and welcome continued program development in the applicant’s area of expertise and interest.
Teaching/Supervision: Psychology faculty provide training and supervision of postdoctoral fellows in clinical health psychology, doctoral-level practicum students, and/or psychiatry residents.
Research: Our Department is dedicated to advancing research for its faculty and has an internal funding mechanism devoted to supporting projects at early stages. Applicants are highly encouraged to pursue their research interests, as psychology faculty are actively engaged in scholarly activities and research across the UVA School of Medicine and through national collaborations.
Candidates must have a PhD/PsyD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited program. Postdoctoral experience in Health Psychology is strongly preferred. Preference will be given to those with experience providing empirically-based psychological interventions with medical populations, consulting with medical staff, and performing medically-specialized psychological evaluations. Candidates must be license-eligible in the Commonwealth of Virginia and must be licensed by date of hire. Candidates must also be board certified or eligible for board certification from the American Board of Professional Psychology. Board certification is a requirement for clinical privileges within UVA Health, so individuals are expected to obtain board certification after hire, typically within 3 years.
This position may be eligible to convert to tenure-track at an appropriate time in the future, consistent with School of Medicine Promotion and Tenure guidelines and candidate qualifications.
