University of Virginia Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor - Clinician Investigator of Nuclear Medicine in Charlottesville, Virginia
The Division of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging in the Department of Radiology and Medical Imaging at the University of Virginia is recruiting for a physician scientist. The tenure-eligible Clinician Investigator track will be 50% research and 50% clinical, educational and service. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to adding to the fundamental understanding and application of molecular imaging, theranostics, and/or targeted radiotherapy by promoting translational research efforts that will serve as the future basis for advanced preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. Compensation will depend on the faculty rank and academic accomplishments/portfolio of the applicant, and is consistent for all Diagnostic Radiologists and Nuclear Medicine/Molecular physicians. The Clinician Investigator will conduct rigorous research designed to provide evidence needed to drive changes in patient care delivery, clinical outcomes, and health policy. The Clinician Investigator position will be primarily focused on developing a successful research program and secure independent funding to support their research efforts and program.
The Division of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging is a collegial and collaborative team with a rich and long-standing tradition of excellence in research, patient care, education and service.
As a clinical investigator, the candidate will be expected to perform as follows:
Research effort (50%)
· Developing a productive and independently functioning research program, including eventually serving in active leadership roles for clinical trials
· Building productive research collaborations with clinician and basic scientist colleagues in Radiology and other departments, centers and institutes at UVA as well as with other institutions, industry and/or organizations
· Securing sustained funding from the NIH and/or other federal funding sources for the individual’s research program and efforts
· Enhancing the national recognition and reputation of the individual, division, department and institution
· As your career progresses, invitations to serve on study sections and boards of funding agencies and in leadership roles for national organizations and research initiatives as well as serving as a mentor to more junior faculty and trainees
Clinical, teaching and service efforts (50%)
· Approximately 50% of effort should involve clinical work in the Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging division, including call coverage. While performing clinical service, the candidate will be expected to teach medical students, residents, and fellows as well as the technical, nursing and administrative support staff. Approximately 5% of these efforts should be attributed to the development, organization, and delivery of more formal teaching. Some contributions to volunteer service activities (i.e. department and institutional committees) is expected.
· Developing meaningful and productive relationships and collaborations with referring providers and services is also requisite.

Qualified candidates for this position must have a M.D. or equivalent degree, be eligible for Virginia State Medical Licensure, and be board eligible or certified in Radiology or Nuclear Medicine. In addition, the successful candidate must have a successful track record in clinical, translational, or basic science research. A demonstrated ability to secure research funding is highly preferred.
