Job Description

U.S. Bank’s Subscription Finance (“SF”) team provides financing to private equity funds through structured credit facilities secured by the capital commitments of the funds’ limited partners (investors). The SF team is seeking an experienced underwriter to join our portfolio management team covering subscription lines for Commercial Real Estate (“CRE”)-focused investment funds.

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Partnering with Relationship Manager(s) to successfully manage and grow a portfolio of subscription lines and related institutional CRE customer relationships, specializing in underwriting CRE private equity funds and their underlying investors

  • Applying credit policy to underwrite and structure borrowing bases consisting of diverse investor types, including pension funds, endowments, foundations, insurance companies, sovereign wealth funds, other institutional investors, and high-net-worth investors

  • Preparing comprehensive written and financial analyses, determining appropriate risk ratings, and preparing and presenting requests for credit approvals, including completing required loan booking system (nCino) fields and tasks

  • Performing ongoing monitoring and analysis for an assigned loan portfolio, including verifying compliance with financial/covenant reporting requirements and conducting high-level CRE fund underwriting analyses to identify potential strengths or weaknesses in the funds’ underlying investment portfolios

  • Contributing to the team’s overall portfolio & risk management activities, including maintaining relevant data elements in SF’s collateral management application and related portfolio management databases in support of internal reporting and portfolio surveillance

  • Supporting SF’s commitment to risk management and operational efficiency by championing continuous improvement in the policies, procedures, and tools employed by the business

  • Contributing subject matter expertise during refinements to credit policy & procedures

  • Supporting the ongoing training and development of more junior team members

  • In furtherance of the foregoing responsibilities, partnering with members of CRE Relationship Management team, CRE Loan Administration and portfolio management teams, Credit Risk Management, and other product stakeholders

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience

  • Eight or more years of relevant experience

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Working knowledge of Subscription Finance market practices and underwriting considerations

  • Working knowledge of the CRE market and underwriting experience in related asset classes

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint), with an emphasis on Excel

  • Strong proficiency in nCino

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with the ability to effectively partner with internal product and coverage groups

  • Strong technical and analytical skills, including underwriting, financial statement analysis, and the ability to read and interpret legal documents

  • Considerable experience with credit policies and procedures

  • Effective organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills

  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail

  • Ability to work effectively, as well as independently, in a team environment

  • Outstanding problem-solving skills with the ability to recommend and implement process and efficiency improvements

  • Experience leading and/or training others

The role offers a hybrid/flexible schedule, which means there's an in-office expectation of 3 or more days per week and the flexibility to work outside the office location for the other days.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $144,160.00 - $169,600.00 - $186,560.00
