Job Description

The Opportunity

Leads Manulife Investment Management Forest Management’s (MFM) North American Resource Support Team (RST) Resource Planning Group that is responsible for forest resource planning and investment analysis for properties managed by Manulife Investment Management Timber and Agriculture (MIMTA). The resource planning group exists to provide clients, client account managers, MIMTA partners with forward looking investment performance decision support which ultimately forecasts asset-level wood flow, cash flow, and return on investment.

Scope:

  • MFM-managed properties totaling 3.2 million acres in the Pacific Northwest, Inland-Northwest, Western Gulf, Mid-Atlantic, Lake States, and Northeast regions of North America.

  • Resource management planning and reporting for approximately 100+ client properties and three MFM Operating divisions.

Job Dimensions:

  • Leads distributed team of two direct reports; ten total reports.

  • Services the information needs of teams in multiple locations.

  • Reports to Resource Support General Manager.

  • Position is classified as a hybrid working arrangement

Specific Duties:

  • Direct hiring processes to fill positions for the best team fit and talent.

  • Establish effective customer and partner relationship

  • Provide oversite and expertise for team’s work in optimization modeling, strategic and tactical planning, timber yield and modeling assumptions, price forecasts, timber investment and variance analysis.

  • Deliver annual timber investment model updates for every client property in collaboration with MFM Operations and MIMTA partners.

  • Deliver scheduled comprehensive property management plans, developing modeling assumptions and harvest schedule optimization in collaboration with MFM operations and MIMTA team members.

  • Lead integration and fit of timber investment model output with MFM business systems.

  • Develop relationships and strategies with 3rd-parties that lead to external resource contribution to group’s deliverables.

  • Advance MIMTA business development objectives including property transactions, timberland investment analysis and decision support tools, and other strategic business objectives.

  • Support MFM conformance with certification requirements and support management systems that enable the advancement of its forest stewardship commitment.

  • Special projects as requested or needed.

What are we looking for

  • A Bachelor of Science degree related to natural resources

  • A graduate degree in a forestry or business is highly desirable.

  • Ten plus years of experience in forest planning, discounted cash flow modeling, resource management, resource analysis, and related software tools; experience in multiple different forestry operating regions is preferred.

  • A minimum of five years of team managerial experience; mid-level managerial experience is preferred with aspirations for succession opportunities.

  • Knowledge of silviculture, forest mensuration, timberland appraisal, growth and yield models, timber supply and demand modeling, forestry operations, and forest regulatory matters.

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location

Charlotte, North Carolina

Salary range is expected to be between

$111,525.00 USD - $200,745.00 USD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
