You will report directly to our Sr. ISC Operations Manager, and you’ll work out of our Charlotte NC location on a hybrid work schedule.

As a Machine Vision Engineer here at Honeywell, you will work closely with the ISC Manufacturing Excellence group to help develop and deploy machine vision systems for industrial applications. You will design, develop and implement high impact use cases for Machine Vision technology and scale across 150+ Honeywell factories, driving higher levels of quality, productivity, throughput and increased supply chain reliability.

Systems Integration, including field engineering experience desired, as solutions will be deployed at various Honeywell manufacturing sites.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct feasibility studies and cost analyses for machine vision projects. Choose advanced 2D and 3D vision sensors and other vision hardware tailored to project requirements, ensuring scalability and robustness.

Develop advanced machine vision software, utilizing both rules-based and deep learning computer vision techniques.

Operationalize robust vision systems in production by integrating vision hardware and software with databases, PLCs, motion controllers, and other automation technologies.

Collaborate with mechanical and electrical designers to guide the integration of vision hardware within the system and production line.

Provide onsite support for system installation and commissioning, training personnel, and supporting any operational issues that arise during and after deployment.

Engage, collaborate with, and influence all functions to ensure the advanced technology strategy is understood and is sufficiently supported by the appropriate stakeholders.

Build strong relationships with the key functional leaders and internal / external suppliers to align advanced manufacturing technology with business strategy.

Stay up to date with the latest automation technologies and industry trends and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations

U.S. PERSON REQUIREMENTS

Due to compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations, candidate must be a U.S. Person, which is defined as, a U.S. citizen, a U.S. permanent resident, or have protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status.

YOU MUST HAVE:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as science, technology, engineering, mathematics.

Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and ability to apply them towards manufacturing process development.

Knowledge in selection of vision sensors, optics, lighting, and other hardware for high-speed image acquisition and processing.

Proven experience in integrating 2D and 3D vision sensors utilizing interface standards such as GigE Vision, Camera Link, and RTSP.

Extensive experience in high-speed digital image processing, utilizing both rules-based and deep learning methods for various computer vision tasks, including object detection and tracking, classification, and segmentation, specifically tailored for industrial applications.

Experience in vision software architecture, algorithm development using programming languages such as C++, C#, or Python. Experience in interfacing with SQL and other databases.

Experience deploying robust solutions based on vision frameworks and products such as MVTec HALCON, Cognex, Keyence, and OpenCV, as well as deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch, and ONNX.

Experience interfacing with PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, robots, and motion controllers with knowledge of industrial protocols such as Ethernet/IP, MQTT, Modbus, and RS-232/485.

Ability to travel—this role requires 40% domestic and international travel

WE VALUE:

BS in physics, electrical, mechanical, computer science or another engineering discipline

System Integration experience with proven expertise in building, deploying and commissioning vision systems in production within industrial environments.

Experience in architecting complex, multi-threaded applications on the .NET framework, and experience with integrating REST APIs and web frameworks.

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to quickly learn new software frameworks for building robust machine vision solutions.

Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and ability to apply them towards manufacturing process development.

Proactive self-starter with strong ability to make informed decisions in the development and implementation of machine vision systems.

Strong organizational and leadership skills in an international environment with the ability to lead and drive projects to completion

Metric-oriented with strong analytical skills and the ability to comprehend broad sets of data (including financial); technically astute; demonstrated history to act on analysis and drive impactful results.

Electrical and mechanical aptitude is a plus.
