This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Project Manager - Energy for our Charlotte, North Carolina office to be involved in projects with our Energy Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. The following locations will also be considered: Asheville, NC , and Greensboro, NC . The Senior Project Manager will be assigned to the Civil, Ground Engineering, & Materials business line delivering engineering consulting and construction support services projects predominately to energy sector clients across the region.

The selected candidate will have energy sector experience managing multi-discipline projects through design and implementation phases while adhering to budget, schedule, and quality requirements. Candidate will have the ability to develop and maintain high-level strategic relationships with clients and industry partners. Candidate will have experience in scheduling, estimating, risk analysis, change order processing and close out of regulated projects. Candidate will have the ability to independently review designs and perform constructability reviews to identify project concerns.

Your Impact

  • Serve as project manager for energy and power projects involving transmission and distribution including substations and transmission lines, renewables including solar, battery, and wind, hydropower, electrification, generation, and industrial projects.

  • Provide expertise on planning, design, and construction phase projects to support constructability and delivery excellence.

  • Provide comprehensive ownership through the project lifecycle, from proposal development including scoping and pricing, to project initiation, planning, implementation, and closeout.

  • Effectively lead in a matrix organization and manage project teams to ensure project success.

  • Accountable and responsible for: cost/budgeting and management; communication management; change management; schedule management; construction management oversight; risk management; regulatory and stakeholder management.

  • Supporting key client relationship management and marketing efforts.

  • Some regional travel is anticipated.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Project Management or related discipline

  • 7-10 years of progressive experience in project management including the electric utility industry.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and project software (MS Project, Primavera P6, SharePoint).

  • Valid state driver’s license. Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.

  • Must be willing to travel to project sites and business meetings, as required.

  • Well-defined knowledge of construction inspection principles, field inspection practices, process, methods, and techniques.

  • Well-defined knowledge of relevant construction codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.

  • Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.

  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.

  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, and comply with company policies.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.

  • Proficient with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, spreadsheets, and tools.

  • Competent critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from inspection and testing results, and data collation arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

  • The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States or be able to obtain work authorized status in the United States prior to the start of employment. This role is eligible for employment visa sponsorship for eligible and qualified candidates.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer license and/or PMP certification.

  • Master's Degree in Project Management or related discipline.
