Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The FM Technician Building Trades performs under the direction of the Building Interiors Supervisor.
Duties include:
Provide career tracks including but not limited to Cabinet making, carpentry, masonry, painting, plastering, and roofing. Will perform a variety of tasks ranging from routine and unskilled, to highly skilled.
Apply methods and general procedures of applicable trades/maintenance techniques and develop skills in procedures, techniques, tools, materials, and/or equipment appropriate to trade.
Tasks include maintenance, repair, placement, fabrication, installation, alteration, construction, and design of facility components requiring the application of skills in planning, problem-solving, attention to detail, teamwork, communication, and knowledge of and adherence to safety policies and regulations.
Position may serve as lead technician and/or crew leader, directing the work of others.
Minimum Experience / Education:
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position’s role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
University Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or equivalent and two years experience. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position’s role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Education Skills and Experience:
Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Two years of experience in the trades areas of cabinet making, carpentry, masonry, painting, plastering, and roofing areas.
Two years of experience with metal stud framing is preferred.
Ability to follow applicable building codes.
Experience with university systems, Archibus, Kronos, Niner Talent and others or ability to gain proficiency.
Experience and ability to perform broad and functionally facility maintenance assignments including the most complex, non-routine building systems using skills related to assigned trade area.
Experience with estimate assigned work projects considering time, cost, and resources.
Experience and ability to train other technicians on the operation of special equipment. as well as guide, direct and coach others regarding application and interpretation of technical issues.
Experience and working knowledge of carpentry, masonry, painting, plastering and/or roofing, and is able to recognize malfunctions or potential problems and ensure necessary repairs are completed.
Experience as a lead worker in project work as a discipline specific expert, with the ability to train staff and work crews.
Knowledge and skill with Google Applications, Microsoft Word, and Excel, and willingness to learn new programs.
Ability to operate assigned vehicles on and/or off campus.
Ability to apply and interpret technical knowledge to resolve unique or highly complex situations.
Ability to demonstrate a thorough and extensive understanding of programs, concepts and practices in the most complex building systems in one trade area as well as a general understanding of one or more different trade areas.
Ability to effectively work/interact with a college community and to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork.
Effective communication skills in verbal, written, and interpersonal communication.
