CTG's premier client has a contract assignment for a Design Engineer.

Type: Contract

Job Title: Design Engineer

Location: Charlotte, NC (hybrid remote)

Candidates must be able to commute and work onsite in Charlotte, NC

Pay Rate: Based on experience

Work Hours: M-F 8am-5pm

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related field

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and talented Design Engineer to join a global design team. You will collaborate with mechanical engineers, manufacturing experts, product line managers, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality, market-ready designs that uphold our brand’s integrity, meet customer needs, and adhere to our technical standards. You will be supporting the design efforts for a wide range of products, including connectors, adaptors, testing devices, fiber housings, wireless terminals, splice cassettes, as well as the accompanying tools, accessories, and packaging.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the conceptualization and iterative development of innovative fiber optic hardware solutions for all market segments.

  • Create 3D models and prototypes that demonstrate functionality and/or appearance.

  • Engage in fieldwork to gather insights and improve designs.

  • Participate in brainstorming sessions and design reviews to contribute ideas and feedback to the global design team.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align design intent with project objectives and business goals throughout the project.

  • Prepare detailed design documentation and presentation materials.

  • Educate and advise on industry best practices for Visual Language, Design Thinking, and UX/UI.

  • Execute packaging and label graphics that align with current standards.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related field

  • 1+ years of product development experience

Skills for Your Success:

  • Strong communication skills to clearly convey design intent to a diverse audience.

  • Proficiency in CAD software (experience with CREO preferred).

  • Creative problem-solving approach, challenging the status quo.

  • Good to strong digital sketching and visual communication skills.

  • Expert proficiency in KeyShot and Adobe Creative Cloud.

  • Solid understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and engineering principles.

  • High personal standard for detail and craftsmanship.

  • Dynamic in collaborative environments, providing constructive feedback diplomatically.

  • Curiosity about design and technology, with a willingness to explore new methods.

  • Ability to execute within an established visual brand language across a broad portfolio.

  • Effective organizational skills, managing multiple tasks and deadlines.

  • Interest in sustainability, AI, generative design, and cutting-edge design tools.

  • Familiarity with DFM/A principles.

  • Advanced understanding of human factors and ergonomics.

  • Additional experience or training in UX is a plus.

Work Environment:

  • Office conditions with regular computer and phone usage.

  • Light physical effort, including frequent lifting or moving of lightweight materials.

  • Infrequent visits to manufacturing facilities, labs, and in the field, where personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required.
