We are seeking a Data Center Delivery Construction Site Director with strong interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills, along with the ability to self-direct and excel in a dynamic environment. The ideal candidate will bring a solid background in construction, engineering, controls, and operational requirements, with expertise in project/construction management, data center lease markets, client representation, and project-level services within the Data Center Delivery (DCD) organization. This role is pivotal in driving and overseeing the strategic and tactical delivery of data center projects within their portfolio.

The Site Director Americas holds ultimate responsibility for the complete delivery of projects across campus locations and metros, ensuring they meet Microsoft’s standards for safety, quality, cost predictability, schedule adherence, and risk management. This position requires ensuring that all projects align with Microsoft guidelines and standards, which are continually refined based on industry best practices, lessons learned, and emerging trends.

In this role, the Site Director will manage the delivery of projects by aligning team objectives, business processes, general contractor and vendor management strategies, and cross-functional collaboration with the overarching project strategy. This ensures effective customer relationship management, cost efficiency, and seamless project execution. The Site Director is also a relentless advocate for safe project delivery, championing quality and collaborating with key stakeholders, including Microsoft Security, IT, Legal, Project Engineering, and Business Risk Management, to maintain alignment with corporate goals and vision.

Additionally, this position involves coordinating and reviewing contractor and vendor performance related to cash flow and budget summaries and presenting these findings to the delivery and executive teams. Responsibilities also include oversight of project controls, such as Project Expenditure Requests (PERs), Professional Services Requests, Change Orders, and Pay Applications. The Site Director will engage with Microsoft partners, contribute to communications plans, and support community involvement initiatives in collaboration with Data Center Operations (DCOPs), Real Estate Services, Data Center Services, and Corporate Communications teams.

This role is based in Charlotte, NC. Relocation support is available, and successful candidates are required to either reside within or relocate to within 50 miles of the designated hub office.

This role 100% onsite [within 50 miles from Charlotte, NC].

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the end-to-end delivery of data center construction projects across campuses and metros, ensuring alignment with Microsoft’s standards for safety, quality, cost, schedule, and risk management.

  • Align project objectives, business processes, contractor/vendor management strategies, and cross-team collaboration to drive efficient and effective project delivery.

  • Oversee project adherence to Microsoft guidelines, continuously incorporating best practices, lessons learned, and evolving industry standards.

  • Act as a champion for safety, quality, and predictable delivery, ensuring all projects meet business needs and cost expectations.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including Microsoft Security, IT, Legal, Project Engineering, and Business Risk Management, to uphold corporate vision and goals.

  • Review and manage contractor/vendor performance, ensuring compliance with budgets, cash flows, and project metrics, and present updates to executive stakeholders.

  • Monitor and report on project progress, providing updates on scope, schedule, budget, and performance metrics per DCD standards.

  • Conduct site walks, review vendor work scopes, validate designs, and approve pay applications, invoices, and project deliverables.

  • Lead safety, quality, and efficiency initiatives while driving lessons learned and process improvements across multiple projects.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Project Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field AND 12+ years related experience

  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Project Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field AND 15+ years related experience

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 15+ years of progressive responsibility in leading Data Center, semiconductor, Oil-gas, Bio-Pharmaceutical or other large scale construction projects.

  • Experience leading and driving multiple, large multi-faceted projects, including Safety Management, Quality Management, Risk Management, Contract Management, Project Controls and experience in Fabrication facilities.

  • 15+ years experience working on data center projects.

  • 10+ years project management experience.

  • 10+ years people management experience.

Construction Project Management M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $129,200 - $273,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $162,000 - $299,400 per year.
