Job Title: Crating Lead - 2nd Shift

Job Description

The Crating Lead is responsible for overseeing a small team of 2 to 3 people during the 2nd shift. This role involves crate assembly to securely hold tools and devices, utilizing various hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools. The Crating Lead ensures all safety and procedural guidelines are followed while maintaining a clean and orderly work environment. The position also requires performing routine equipment maintenance, completing necessary paperwork, and assisting with crate building and material packaging as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all safety rules and procedures for the site.

  • Adhere to guidelines in the employee handbook.

  • Work closely with all departments to meet customer delivery needs.

  • Coordinate duties of warehouse and crating departments and communicate with respective managers.

  • Ensure compliance with department process workflows.

  • Instruct and train personnel according to company policy.

  • Ensure personnel complete all required documentation.

  • Communicate company objectives to personnel.

  • Report any issues to the respective department manager.

  • Research and reconcile inventory discrepancies.

  • Inspect, measure, and design packaging in compliance with company standards.

  • Ensure building security at closing by securing all access points.

  • Complete all required periodic reporting.

  • Ensure compliance with ISPM15 Standards and maintain log book for lumber usage.

  • Work confidently alone or with a mobile team.

  • Manage and lead onsite team while communicating any issues to the department manager.

  • Provide a confident and positive point of contact for all project members.

  • Provide accurate follow-up information based on accomplishments or issues encountered.

  • Meet all required deadlines with accurate reporting and communication.

  • Be flexible to work nonstandard hours, including off-shift work and weekends when required.

  • Be willing to travel on short notice to support business requirements.

  • Support industrial packaging by traveling to offsite locations to repair, rebuild, or build crates.

  • Be flexible to work in any area of the operation as required by the supervisor or department manager.

  • Willing to travel abroad for projects outside of the U.S.

  • Assess all projects proactively before arriving at job site and communicate any concerns to the supervisor.

  • Understand building plans outlined by crate building software like BoxCAD and Crate Pro.

  • Perform all established building tasks required to construct wooden crates per production plans.

  • Complete required paperwork processes.

  • Perform routine and minor maintenance on equipment.

  • Maintain a clean and orderly work environment.

  • Communicate, instruct, direct, and train new builders as instructed.

  • Perform other duties as directed by the manager.

Essential Skills

  • Mechanical aptitude

  • General labor and production experience

  • Leadership experience

  • Proficiency with hand tools and power tools

  • Ability to read measuring tapes

  • Experience in construction, carpentry, installation, mechanical assembly, and warehouse operations

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the employee handbook

  • Knowledge of company safety rules and regulations

  • Effective communication skills

  • Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)

  • Basic math skills

  • Ability to organize and direct multiple tasks efficiently

  • Ability to support auditing visits for industrial crating

  • Ability to resolve basic warehouse equipment issues

  • Oversight and management capability

  • Ability to understand and read drafting documents (blueprints, mechanical drawings, etc.)

  • Learn and become a functional expert in proprietary software

Work Environment

This position is based in a non-climate controlled facility at a distribution center supporting Siemens Energy. You should be prepared to stand for the duration of the shift, and the receiving dock can be cold in winter and hot in summer.
