Title of position: Lower School Spanish Teacher - Grades One - Five Reports directly to: Director of the Early Learning Center and Lower School Department: Lower School Position type: Full time, exempt, 10-month position Salary: Based on experience Start date: August 12, 2024 *Location: Antilles School, 7280 Frenchman Bay, St. Thomas, VI 00802 Antilles School is an independent coeducational day school located on St. Thomas, in the US Virgin Islands. Position Overview Antilles School is seeking a dynamic and talented teacher to join a committed team of educators in a collaborative environment that places a high value on educating the whole child. Ideal candidates are passionate and self-motivated professionals, prepared to teach and nurture young children and support a wide range of learning styles and abilities. An understanding of and a commitment to, a culturally and ethnically diverse population is essential. Responsibilities include maintaining a child-friendly classroom and teaching children to speak, understand, read, and write Spanish at an appropriate level for each age. The teacher is also responsible for helping the students to appreciate and enjoy the Spanish language and different Spanish cultures. He or she is expected to have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the schools Spanish curriculum and the developmental stages of their students. Character development and the social emotional development of each child are as equally important as their academic development. Communicating effectively with families and working in partnership with them, is vital to each childs success in the classroom. Collaboration with peers and a positive work ethic are expected. Teachers have assigned duties and also need to be willing to help out as needed. Educational Qualifications* - Bachelors degree or higher, required - Command of the Spanish language required, fluency preferred Skills, Abilities and Competencies Previous successful classroom experience, required Demonstrated command of child development and current best practices in elementary education Ability to partner and communicate effectively with parents Collaborative professional nature Understanding of pedagogy and fostering intellectual growth
