Department Summary

Founded in 1930, the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology (OIMB) is the third oldest marine laboratory on the Pacific Coast. The 130-acre campus located about two hours from Eugene maintains housing, teaching, and research facilities for University of Oregon students and faculty as well as visiting investigators and students from other institutions. Resident faculty are members of the Department of Biology and conduct research on the development, ecology, evolution, and physiology of marine organisms worldwide from the intertidal zone to the deep sea.

Position Summary

The Oregon Institute of Marine Biology seeks qualified applicants for its open pool for research positions. Positions are limited-duration appointments that are part-time and/or short-term, with contracts not to exceed one year. There may be a possibility of renewal up to a total of three years, depending on programmatic need, funding, and performance. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Research Assistant positions will conduct research under the direction of the Principal Investigator(PI). Research Associate positions will conduct research with only general guidance from the PI. Postdoctoral Scholars will conduct research under the direction of a faculty member to acquire research training. In addition to career development, the postdoctoral scholar and PI will create and follow mentoring and individual development plans.

This pool is open rank, and applicants will be considered for appropriate vacancies based on both their experience, and applicable business needs.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum qualifications by rank:

• Research Assistant: bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field

• Senior Research Assistant I: bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field plus 6 years of applicable work experience post-degree

• Senior Research Assistant II: Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field plus 12 years of applicable work experience post-degree

• Postdoctoral Scholar: terminal degree in biology, chemistry, or related field

• Research Associate: terminal degree in biology, chemistry, or related field

• Senior Research Associate I: terminal degree in biology, chemistry, or related field plus 6 years of applicable work experience post-degree

• Senior Research Associate II: terminal degree in biology, chemistry, or related field plus 12 years of applicable work experience post-degree
