About the Role:

A Local Area Manager oversees the operations of Field Techs or Buried Drop Techs who are responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of telecommunications services. You will ensure that field operations are carried out efficiently by organizing daily tasks, forming routes, and providing on-the-ground support. This role involves coordinating with various departments to solve technical issues, optimizing service delivery processes, and maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction. Additionally, Local Area Managers play a key role in training and mentoring, implementing best practices, and ensuring compliance with company standards and safety regulations.

What You'll Do:

  • Manage a team of Buried Drop Techs, ensuring work is done efficiently and properly.

  • Conduct quarterly reviews of technician work to ensure quality and adherence to procedures.

  • Initiate disciplinary actions as required and maintain personnel records for annual appraisals.

  • Analyze trouble patterns and repeat reports to reduce issues.

  • Monitor central office routines and progress of CO and OSP jobs; inspect jobs post-completion.

  • Oversee facility change orders (FCOs) and coordinate job cutovers.

  • Handle after-hours problems and provide coverage for other supervisory areas as needed.

  • Utilize ETA for task monitoring and adjustments; prepare monthly work schedules and performance reports.

  • Provide safety training and ensure compliance with safety rules; maintain OSHA records and complete accident reports.

  • Maintain DOT driver documentation, including monthly summaries and daily inspections.

  • Control inventory levels and monitor expenses for office and technician vehicles.

  • Inspect and maintain buildings, grounds, and vehicles.

  • Prepare budget inputs for tools and test sets; identify plant needs for replacement or relief.

  • Collaborate with city and county officials, and local customers to uphold a positive Windstream image.

  • Ability to motivate employees in sales, revenue growth, and productivity.

  • Strong people management and HR skills.

  • Customer service mindset.

  • Knowledge of telephone operations and PC skills.

  • Positive attitude with candid, vocal, and honest communication skills.

  • Ability to rapidly adapt to changing technologies.

  • Relationship-building mentality.

  • College degree with 5-7 years of professional experience, including 2-3 years of supervisory experience.

  • 9+ years of related technical and/or telephony experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
