Summary:
The ideal Transformer Technician will have a strong mechanical mindset and firm grasp of electrical theory. The ideal candidate will also be able to perform all aspects of power transformer services (internal and external repair, oil processing and handling) and demonstrate an exceptional understanding of high and medium voltage equipment found in substation and distribution systems. The candidate should be able to interpret and apply IEC, IEEE, ANSI/NETA ATS and MTS standards to the installation, maintenance, and repair of power generation systems and equipment.
Essential Duties:
Conducts transformer internal/external inspection and repairs
Performs installation, inspection, repair, and testing of medium voltage power cables.
Utilizes aerial lift/bucket truck as a qualified operator.
Inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs overhead distribution equipment.
Schedules and conducts biannual and annual substation inspections.
Troubleshoots and repairs substation equipment.
Performs switching and grounding of medium and high voltage equipment.
Develops and approves written switching orders.
Operates specialized test equipment including, but not limited to megohmmeters, AC/DC voltmeters, micro-ohmmeters.
Conducts acceptance and diagnostic testing, substation commissioning testing, and preventative maintenance in accordance with published testing procedures.
Verifies repairs using established commissioning and start-up procedures.
Makes electrical measurements, mechanical adjustments, disassembles and assembles equipment correctly.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED required
Associate degree in Industrial Maintenance, Electrical/Electronic Technology preferred
2+ years of commensurate electric utility transformer work experience preferred
Electrical theory education and/or related experience is required
Ability to pass a pre-employment DOT (Department of Transportation) drug screen and physical
Class A CLD with hazmat preferred
