SAIC Senior Linux Systems Administrator in CHANTILLY, Virginia
Description
SAIC has an opening for a Linux Systems Administrator to work closely with a diverse team of engineers and scientist developing and implementing the future space- ground architecture. The Linux Systems Administrator performs high-level, day-to-day operational maintenance, support, and upgrades for a complex network consisting of multiple Linux servers supporting an international group of researchers. The Linux systems administrator coordinates, directs, and performs complex software installations and upgrades to Linux operating systems and layered software packages. The Linux Systems Administrator continually monitors and tunes systems to achieve optimum performance.
The Linux Systems Administrator ensures data/media recoverability by developing and implementing a schedule of system backups and database archive operations. The Linux Systems Administrator plans and implements the customer’s vision to modernize the servers and services supporting international researchers’ development activities. The Linux System Administrator conducts hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.
Specific Responsibilities:
Installing, configuring, and maintaining Linux operating system across a variety of hardware platforms, virtual environments, and cloud computing environments
Monitoring system performance and ensuring compliance with IT/Security policies and requirements
Perform routine system backup and implement disaster recovery operations to safeguard data
Install patches and upgrades to the operating system and installed software to ensure up-to-date protection against vulnerabilities
Automate routine tasks using scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Pearl to increase system efficiency and reduce human error
Diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and networking issues promptly to minimize downtime
Collaborate with other IT staff to design and implement system architecture that implement customer’s vision for the future of the network
Document system configuration, changes, and processes to maintain an accurate record for reference and compliance purposes
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Active TS/SCI with Poly
Bachelor’s degree and 9 years related experience or Master’s degree and 7 years related NRO acquisition experience
DoD 8570 IAT Level 2 Certifications (i.e. Security+)
Demonstrated experience administrating/engineering and management of a complex network of Linux servers (virtual and bare metal)
Demonstrated ability to analyze, harden, and validate compliance across hardware, software, and application layer implementations to satisfy IT/Security requirements
Desired Qualifications:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated experience managing a large enterprise Red Hat environment
Demonstrated experience managing Apache and Tomcat Web Services for Red Hat Linux applications
Knowledge of virtualization technologies and cloud environments
