Northrop Grumman Space Systems is searching for an experienced Principal \ Senior Principal Image Processing Engineer \ Guidance Navigation Controls to support the Glide Phase Interceptor Program within the Launch Vehicles business unit in Chandler, Arizona .
The Principal \ Sr. Principal GNC Engineer will design, develop, implement, verify, and test Image Processing algorithms, software, and simulation tools on a team developing and implementing algorithms for advanced seeker, track, and discrimination. The team is responsible for developing the algorithmic set, optimizing the algorithms for use on embedded systems, creating a verification and validation approach, generating simulation models for algorithm testing, and supporting the transfer of those algorithms to fight hardware. The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with significantly diverse assignments and collaborative/team settings across all levels.
This position may be offered at the Principal GNC Engineer Level 3 or at the Sr. Principal GNC Engineer Level 4.
Responsibilities :
Design and test image processing techniques for missile systems
Work with large high performance computing system to run Monte-Carlo analysis
Debug and analyze GPU optimizations to run high fidelity scene generator tools
Basic Qualifications:
If offered at the Principal GNC Engr Level 3 requires:
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 5 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in STEM with 3 years of related engineering experience, or a PhD with 1 year of experience.
If offered at the Sr. Principal GNC Engr Level 4 requires:
Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 8 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in STEM with 6 years of related engineering experience; or a PhD and 4 years of experience.
Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope
Experience with Image Processing techniques
Experience with optical effects modeling and scene generation
Experience with high performance computing (HPCs)
Experience working on real-time hypersonic missile interceptor systems
High proficiency in C++ development in a Linux environment
High proficiency in MATLAB and Python toolchains
Experience with high fidelity 6DoF simulation for guided missiles
Travel 10% of the time
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree: Optical, Physics, Electrical, or Software preferred
Experience with missile systems and associated standards
Previous experience with DOD missile defense programs
Experience with relevant seeker algorithms including radiometric processing, search/object localization, and/or sensor control
Experience in seeker algorithms design
Proficient with Linux and automation tools and techniques
Experience using MSLRAD scene generator
Experience working with missile guidance and autopilot algorithms
Salary Range: $92,600 - $139,000
Salary Range 2: $114,900 - $172,300
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
