Network Engineer in Chandler, Arizona

Description

Robert Half is looking for The Network Systems Engineer in our Chandler, Az region. The Network Engineer is responsible for installing, configuring, and administering physical systems, virtual systems, storage, networks, and software releases and upgrades, under supervision of the IT Infrastructure Manager. This position is also responsible for providing backup support for existing Network System Engineers and input into the design and strategy of future IT initiatives.

Day to Day Task:

  • Participate in successful completion of project work including analysis, design, deployment, documentation and testing of client IT infrastructure operations.

  • Document, test, and modify current deployments to enhance efficiency and reliability.

  • Diagnose and remedy network, hosted and system issues for clients.

  • Implement network infrastructure and security policies that promote clients’ objectives and disaster recovery.

  • Design, support, implementation and migrations of advanced applications such as Microsoft SQL server, Microsoft Remote Desktop Services, on-premises Microsoft Exchange, Office 365 and more.

  • Design, document, implement and support layer 2 & 3 switches, routers, firewalls and wireless network infrastructures.

  • Conduct P2V and V2V migrations on Hyper-V and VMware infrastructure.

  • Act as technical escalation point for Support Specialists.

  • Knowledge of layer 2 & 3 network protocols, VPNs, NAT and firewall configurations required.

  • Support the sales team as a sales engineer scoping projects and providing labor hour estimates needed to successfully implement solutions that solves client’s problems or otherwise meets the needs of their requests

  • Ability to speak to both technical and non-technical people on technology matters to translate business needs to technical solutions.

  • Perform quality assurance activities to ensure standardization of best practices.

  • Provide on-the-job training (via shadowing) to Support Specialists and other junior staff.

  • Ability to work beyond normal hours for the on-call rotation and planned service after hours by client request.

  • Keep up to date on new technologies and show progress through appropriate high-level certifications approved by the manager.

  • Develop and maintain client relationships.

  • Experience with Microsoft Windows Server 2008/2012/2016/2019, Microsoft Exchange 2010/2013/2016/2019, Juniper, Cisco, Meraki, SonicWall, VMware and Hyper-V highly desired.

    Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field

  • 5+ years related system experience for complex technical projects, preferably direct experience in telecommunications, ground networks, electronic product development/manufacturing or satellites

  • Knowledge of system engineering methodologies

  • Familiarity with tools and software applications that support system engineering best practices

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to confidently present products, deliverables, analyses, and/or issues

  • Possess an analytical mindset, with the ability to understand a situation or problem and think critically to make decisions or come up with solutions

  • Be comfortable managing upward, including being a proactive communicator and asking for help when needed

  • Have confidence and be able to establish valuable relationships with others

  • Must be able to prioritize key tasks and have a strong sense of ownership over your work

  • Be active in seeking out ways to continuously improve yourself and gain new knowledge

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • Knowledge and experience with designing, developing, and operating Space Vehicle Subsystems

  • Knowledge and experience with designing, developing, and operating various Command and Control Systems (i.e: OS Comet, InControl, etc)

  • Knowledge and experience with aspects of the Hardware Software Development Life Cycle process

  • Programming languages such as: Java, JavaScript, Python, Shell scripting

  • Working knowledge of networking protocols, routers, switches, etc

  • Familiarity with Atlassian Tool Suite
