    About The Job

    We are seeking an experienced Electrical Project Engineer IV with a strong background in electrical engineering and power distribution system  design and  instrumentation and control system design, specifically for water and wastewater facilities. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience working on projects related to water treatment, wastewater treatment, pumping facilities, water storage/conveyance, and wastewater collection facilities. Proficiency in AutoCAD and knowledge of US codes and standards are essential for this role. This role is hybrid and will be tied to our San Diego or Arizona offices.

    Duties and Responsibilities (may include some or all of the below): 

  • Design electrical power distribution systems from the Utility meter through electrical loads ranging from 120V to 15KV for water and wastewater facilities, that comply with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and other applicable codes, under periodic supervision of a professional engineer.

  • Design Utility service entrance sections, switchboards, switchgear, motor control centers, standby power transfer switch and generator systems, panelboards, grounding, and lighting for water and wastewater facilities. 

  • Design and develop single-line diagrams, power plans, control schematics, hazardous location plans and conduit block diagrams.

  • Design instrumentation & control systems, including Piping & Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) drawing development, motor controls, instrumentation, programmable logic controllers, SCADA systems, fiber-optic & copper communication networks, and radio telemetry.

  • Perform engineering calculations, including load summaries, breaker sizing, generator sizing calculations, lighting calculations, conduit sizing, conductor sizing, voltage drop, and short circuit current.

  • Define hazardous locations per NFPA 820 and requirements for hazardous locations per NEC 500 and clearly document them on hazardous location plan drawings.

  • Perform electrical and controls engineer’s opinion of probable cost estimates.

  • Review shop drawings, prepare responses to Requests for Information (RFIs), and develop engineer’s clarifications for electrical, instrumentation, and controls.

  • Perform field inspections.

  • Witness the start-up and commissioning of electrical and controls equipment.

  • Edit and tailor specifications for electrical, instrumentation, and controls to be specific for a project, starting from standard guide specifications.

  • Design, create and develop electrical, instrumentation, and control system drawings in AutoCAD.

  • Perform field inspections; assess electrical, controls, and instrumentation systems on various projects.

    Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.

  • 5 years of experience in electrical engineering, power distribution system  design and  instrumentation and control system design, specifically for water and wastewater facilities.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD.

  • Proficiently design electrical power distribution systems from the Utility meter through electrical loads ranging from 120V to 480V for water and wastewater facilities, that comply with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and other applicable codes, under periodic supervision of a professional engineer.

  • Strong and capable ability to design P&IDs, controls, and communication networks based on examples from other projects and light supervision of the professional engineer.

  • The ability to understand electrical and controls drawings and specifications and review most electrical, instrumentation, and controls shop drawing submittals independently.

  • Possess advanced knowledge of US codes and standards, including the NPFA 70 National Electrical Code, and NFPA 820.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong ability to manage your work on multiple projects and meet deadlines effectively and within budget.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities with supervising electrical professional engineer, co-workers, clients, external firms, and vendors.  Establishes and supports positive relationships.

  • Must follow E, I&C team design standards/design process and company CAD standards.

  • Position may be hybrid and candidate must be willing to travel approximately once per month, if required.

  • Manages production and coordination of specific design drawing elements with other disciplines.

  • Shows pride and ownership for all work undertaken and work products.

  • Open to constructive feedback and always seeking to learn and improve.

  • Engineer in Training (EIT certification).

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have active personal automobile liability insurance by first day of employment

    • As a federal contractor, successful candidates are required to pass the following pre-employment requirements prior to beginning employment: pre - employment drug test and background check.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Working toward obtaining Electrical Professional Engineer (PE) license.

  • Proficiently design electrical power distribution systems from the Utility meter through electrical loads ranging from 480V to 15 kV for water and wastewater facilities, that comply with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and other applicable codes, under periodic supervision of a professional engineer.

  • Proficiently design instrumentation & control systems, including P&ID drawing development, motor controls, instrumentation, programmable logic controllers, SCADA systems, fiber-optic & copper communication networks, and radio telemetry.

  • Strong ability to edit and tailor specifications for electrical, instrumentation, and controls to be specific for a project with minimal supervision, starting from standard guide specifications.

  • Experience with SKM software for conducting power system studies is a plus.

  • Experience reviewing and interpreting power system studies.

  • Experience witnessing the start-up and commissioning of electrical and controls equipment.

  • Experience in E&I construction observation and inspection.

    Working Conditions:

  • This job operates in a remote or office-based environment and this role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, etc.

  • This job requires occasional project site visits-based outdoors which can include excessive noise, uneven walking surfaces, extreme weather, moving vehicles and equipment.

    Proposed Salary Range: $95,000-$120,000 annually *

    *Final agreed upon compensation will be based on a variety of factors including but not limited to an individual’s related experience, education, certifications, skills, and work location.
