Intertek is searching for a Chemist I to join our Food Services team in our Champaign, IL office. This is a fantastic opportunity to grow a versatile career in Nutraceutical testing!
Intertek Nutraceuticals and Food Services team helps clients involved in the manufacturing and distribution of nutraceuticals and food products and services through assurance, testing, inspection, auditing, and certification. From the farm to the fork, we assist customers at all points of the food supply chain in providing quality and safety to the products and processes.
As a Chemist (or Scientist), the incumbent is to stay current with the development of LC-MS, and be aware of current developments on analytical techniques in related area, provide the advanced scientific and technical expertise and leadership to the group in a motivated role. With strong scientific and direct working experience in analysis of small molecules by LC-MS and TOF-MS, the incumbent will be a subject matter expert of the LC-MS laboratory in supporting analytical testing of one or combined areas in nutraceutical, food, cosmeceutical, pharmaceutical and biological materials and products. Key responsibilities are highlighted below, but may evolve as the analytical needs of the laboratory changes, and further alignment of the expertise.
Salary & Benefits Information
The base wage or salary range for this position is $60,000 - $65,000. Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.

What you’ll do:
Plans, performs and completes single projects with staff support to meet deadlines
Maintains all equipment in good operating conditions and troubleshoots instrument related issues.
Oversees other junior staff on basic projects
Interprets data and writes technical reports under supervision
Assures projects are in compliance with current procedures and regulations
Provides technical training to junior staff members
Performs technical assessments
Assists with investigations
Has limited client contact usually under supervision
Familiar with variety of concepts, practices, procedures and regulations
Works under general supervision
Primary job functions require a degree of independence and judgement
Relies on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals
Typically reports to a supervisor or department manager
Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:
Knowledge of analytical chemistry, demonstrated through
BA/BS/MS/PhD Chemistry, Biology or related scientific degree
Knowledge of HPLC operation
3-7 years of related industry experience in an analytical laboratory
Knowledge of laboratory safety precautions and protocols for safe handling and the disposal of hazardous agents/reagents, chemicals and materials
Organization, communication and analytical skills
Ability to understand and effectively communicate technical and business information, both oral and written to others, including co-workers, supervisors, subordinates, clients, and vendors
Intermediate mathematical skills, including: algebraic functions, statistics (mean, median, standard deviation, variance, probability), basic geometry (area, volume calculations), and scientific calculators
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Ability to work varied and extended hours/days, as business dictates
