The Clinical Operations Manager has leadership responsibilities for the House Supervisors, contingent staffing, clinical education, TogetherCare, survey readiness, and performance excellence. The Clinical Operations Manager will influence the clinical outcomes for the organization. Serves as a role model for our mission, vision, and values. Promotes “our actions” in day-to-day work with patients, staff, and visitors.​

The Clinical Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing House Supervisors, contingent staffing, clinical education, TogetherCare, survey readiness, and performance excellence. This role directly influences clinical outcomes and serves as a role model for MercyOne’s mission, vision, and values.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Plan, direct, and monitor quality management activities to address care challenges and achieve departmental goals.

  • Coordinate intra- and inter-departmental activities to ensure alignment with hospital objectives.

  • Manage staff recruitment, training, scheduling, performance management, and retention in a cost-effective manner.

  • Model and enforce MercyOne’s mission, vision, values, and principles in daily operations.

  • Foster employee development by nurturing individual strengths and promoting skill growth.

  • Oversee participation in the Professional Development Ladder and ensure timely completion of orientation competencies.

  • Lead clinical staff education initiatives, including certifications (e.g., ACLS, PALS, BLS).

  • Provide constructive feedback to support clinical team growth and development.

  • Coordinate student clinical experiences and job shadowing opportunities.

  • Facilitate the shared governance structure and promote staff engagement.

  • Ensure compliance with MercyOne/Trinity Health goals, regulatory standards (Iowa Department of Inspection, CMS Conditions of Participation), and applicable healthcare legislation.

  • Collaborate with leaders to optimize quality, safety, and patient experience across the organization.

  • Stay current on healthcare trends, policies, and regulatory changes affecting nursing and clinical operations.

  • Participate in budget preparation and resource stewardship to meet financial goals.

  • Engage in relevant professional organizations and activities to enhance knowledge and skills.

  • Accept other duties as assigned by management.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience, or

  • 3 years of experience in the discipline, or

  • Master’s degree with no prior experience.

Experience:

  • Clinical leadership experience is required, including healthcare management and/or education.

Licensure:

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Iowa is required.

Qualifications:

  • Postgraduate degree in nursing or a related field is preferred, or equivalent knowledge and skills. Candidates must have a written plan to obtain these qualifications if not already met.
