This an exciting opportunity to join the Installation Design and Certification Group working plane side at our Aircraft Certification Center at the Cedar Rapids, Iowa Airport. We are looking for an experienced, senior level Certification Engineer to support our STC and certification programs. This position will be part of a multi-functional team comprised of Systems, Electrical and Mechanical engineers leading aircraft level integration and certification of our next generation avionics supporting our business, commercial and military aircraft operators and customers. In this position you will review certification compliance data, interface with customers, external certification authorities, and work hands-on work engineering teams to provide guidance in the development of and adherence to certification-related processes.

This is an onsite position based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Relocation assistance may be available.

What YOU will do:

  • You will lead, with minimal supervision, avionics supplemental type certification (STC) projects.

  • You will author STC certification plans, Instructions for Continued Airworthiness, ground test plans, flight test plans, design compliance reports, EWIS assessments, electrical load reports, and weight/balance reports.

  • You will lead the aircraft integration and STC certification of Collins avionics systems by working with the avionics systems engineering team and the installation design team to define the aircraft level installation architecture, perform development and company ground testing, and to coordinate or create the substantiation and type design documentation required to meet the approved certification basis.

  • You will identify, document, and communicate significant certification risks for timely review and resolution.

  • You will monitor and report on aircraft installation design and substantiation data milestones and reporting status to project/program management.

  • You will mentor the avionics systems engineering team on aircraft level certification requirements.

  • You will ensure all aircraft certification requirements are met resulting in successful STC issuance.

What you will learn:

  • You will have the opportunity to become an engineering unit member within the Rockwell Collins STC, TSO, PMA ODA organization.

Qualifications You MUST have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience.

  • Working knowledge of Title 14 CFR Part 23, and 25

  • Thorough understanding of aircraft avionics systems

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Familiarity with Title 14 CFR Part 21, 43, 45, 91, 121, 135, and 183

  • Prior or current FAA DER, FAA ODA UM, or other similar compliance-finding experience

  • Experience in the preparation of certification plans, instructions for continued airworthiness, ground test plans, flight test plans, electrical load reports, and weight/balance reports

  • Understanding of the High Intensity Radiated Fields (HIRF), Lightning, environmental, safety, software, Airborne Electronic Hardware (AEH), Electrical Wiring Interconnection System (EWIS), human factors, flammability, structural, and conformity aspects of avionics system certification and aircraft certification

  • Experience as a pilot at any level

  • Working knowledge of Collins Pro Line Fusion, Pro Line 21 and 767/757 Large Format Display System

  • Experience with avionics system integration on an aircraft

  • Familiarity with aircraft systems that interface with avionics systems

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
