Transportation - Bus Driver$21.90 per hour after fully trained.

30 hours per week guaranteed!- Nights and weekends off- Opportunites to pick up extra assignments

Summers off! Nine (9) month work agreement

Hiring Incentive - 30-hour per week positions

  • $1,000 paid in 4 installments without experience or current CDL - We will train you and its PAID!

  • ?After completion of Bus Driver Training $200

  • After 3 Months of School Bus Driving: $200

  • After 6 Months of School Bus Driving: $200

  • After working 1 Year with the School District as a Bus Driver: $400

  • $2,500 paid in 4 installments with a current Class B CDL with school bus & passenger endorsements?

  • After completion of Bus Driver Training $500

  • After 4 Months of School Bus Driving: $500

  • After 8 Months of School Bus Driving: $500

  • After working 1 Year with the School District as a Bus Driver: $1,000

Overview: To transport CRCSD students for morning and afternoon routes including tie ins while managing appropriate student behavior.

Classification:Location: ELSC - Transportation

  • Compensation in accordance with work agreement

  • This is a safety sensitive position:

  • Employee will be enrolled in a random pool of employees performing similar job functions

  • Subject to computer-generated random selections for alcohol and/or drug testing

  • Subject to reasonable suspicion alcohol and/or drug testing

  • Non-Exempt

    Essential Duties:

  • Safely transport students to and from school, activities, etc.

  • Effectively and appropriately manage student behaviors

  • Maintain a cooperative attitude and build rapport with students, peers, supervisors, parents, school personnel, and the community

  • Use effective and professional verbal and written communication skills

  • Present self in a professional manner including attire and being alert and attentive

  • Successfully complete all required trainings, meetings, classes and professional development

  • Work together as a team to keep interior and exterior of vehicle clean, safe and presentable

  • Quickly and safely evacuate vehicle in case of an emergency

  • Check student roster to ensure proper ridership

  • Maintain current knowledge of all student requirements, such as medical protocols, IEP’s, etc. and respond appropriately to events by following written protocols

  • While students are exiting, check vehicle for remaining/lost students, items, etc.

  • Properly secure students in required safety equipment and restraints (i.e. wheelchairs, harnesses, etc.)

  • Safely assist non-ambulatory students into and out of the vehicle

  • Accurately complete reports and paperwork in a timely manner. Including, vehicle maintenance requests, student behavior referrals, timecards, directions, etc.

  • Abide by federal law, state law, and district policies, procedures, and expectations

  • Utilize technology when required

  • Consistently perform thorough and accurate pre-trip and post trip inspections

  • Immediately report accidents

  • Ensure vehicle is properly fueled according to department policy

  • Prepare vehicle for student transport including inclement weather, harnesses, wheelchair tie downs, etc.

  • Safely and appropriately operate various types of school buses and equipment, including wheelchair lifts, radios, and emergency equipment

  • Report any safety or maintenance concerns to appropriate personnel in a timely manner

  • Report all moving violations to Transportation Manager, including any received while on or off the clock

  • Clean bus as designated by department procedures.

  • Perform bus driving tie in assignments (eg. transport athletic teams right before route).

  • Transport students for EOS, Special Ed, or other ad hock district needs.

  • Team leader - communicate information to assigned team members, check staff in at punch in time, alert Fleet Supervisor of issues, etc.

  • Complete general clerical duties, including phone support, sorting/filing paperwork, etc.

  • Check spare vehicle fleet to ensure it is in operable condition (pre-trip, fueling, operational testing, etc.).

  • Complete extra cleaning duties in vehicles and within the building (not generally completed by janitorial staff).

  • Assist office or maintenance staff with special projects.

  • And other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Obtain and maintain a minimum of a valid Class B CDL license, with proper endorsement

  • Obtain and maintain a valid DOT physical and valid Medical Certificate, per FMCSA requirements

  • Pass pre-employment and all:

  • subsequent agility tests

  • subsequent driving history checks

  • Pass pre-employment and periodic background history checks

  • Pass a pre-employment substance abuse screening

  • Pass all random alcohol and/or drug tests

  • Pass all reasonable suspicion alcohol and/or drug tests

  • Register and maintain an account with the FMCSA Clearinghouse

  • Must approve CRCSD queries with the FMCSA Clearinghouse within 24 hours

  • Work well with others, including all personality types

  • Effective problem-solving skills

  • Knowledge of, or ability to navigate, Cedar Rapids and surrounding areas

  • Have and use effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Effectively manage student behavior

  • Accept and implement coaching and training

  • Consistently perform thorough and accurate pre-trip and post trip inspections

  • Professional driving experience preferred, but not required

Physical Demands:

  • Sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time

  • Ascending and descending approximately 14” steps regularly

  • Entering and exiting vehicles regularly

  • Descend from back door of vehicle in emergencies onto uncertain surfaces

  • Repeatedly lifting and carrying students or object(s) weighing up to 75 pounds for 100 or more feet

  • Repeatedly pushing and pulling wheelchairs/objects(s) weighing up to 75 pounds for 100 or more feet

  • Continuous use of hands, fingers, and wrists repetitively

  • Using both hands and legs simultaneously

  • Repeated stooping, bending, and kneeling

  • Occasional pushing, pulling and maintaining balance

  • Reach over head to approximately 72” height to open wheelchair lift door and operate lift mechanism

  • Rapid mental/muscular coordination

  • Verbal, auditory, and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner

  • Accurate depth perception

  • Clarity of vision at varying distances to see small details

  • Operate mobile motorized equipment

  • Drive a vehicle to conduct work

Hazards:

  • Possible contact with blood borne pathogens and/or bodily fluids

  • Contact with chemicals used for cleaning buses

  • Other duties, as assigned

Environment:

  • Indoor/outdoor environment subject to changing temperatures including extreme heat and cold

  • Direct contact with the public, students, and other district staff

  • May be exposed to heights, loud noises, fumes, dust, and other odors

  • May be subject to tight deadlines and continuously changing priorities and interruptions
