Reports to: Director of Brand CommunicationsDepartment: Office of Data Analytics, Digital Innovation, and Strategic Communication

Job Description:

As the Policy, Events, and Communications Specialist, you’ll be at the crossroads of policy updates, big events, and impactful communications. You’ll keep everyone in the loop about new policies (like changes to the Iowa Report Card) and help make sure our district’s events reflect our latest initiatives. You’ll also write grants to help fund those exciting initiatives and plan unforgettable events that showcase the district's success. Your creative marketing strategies will make sure everyone knows what we’re up to, and your data-driven insights will help refine and improve everything we do.

What You’ll Do:

  • Track Policy Changes: Stay ahead of proposed changes that affect the district—whether it’s new legislation or an important policy update—and keep everyone informed.

  • Grant Writing: Research and write grant proposals that bring much-needed funding to district initiatives like curriculum improvements and event programming.

  • Event Planning and Execution: Lead the planning of key district events, ensuring they are well-executed and aligned with our district’s goals.

  • Marketing and Communication: Develop marketing strategies and communication campaigns to get the word out about policies, events, and initiatives, while ensuring everything reflects our district’s brand.

  • Data Tracking and Improvement: Use data to measure the effectiveness of our events and communications, and make adjustments as needed to continuously improve.

  • Collaboration Across Departments: Work closely with departments like Curriculum, Data Analytics, and Communications to ensure everything is aligned and our messaging is clear.

  • Legislative Communication Strategy: Keep the district informed about changes in policy and ensure that the communication strategies around these changes are effective and timely.

    What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience: At least 5 years of experience in policy communication, event planning, or grant writing.

  • Creative Communicator: You can take complex ideas and make them easy for anyone to understand.

  • Event Planning Expert: You’ve got experience planning and executing events that leave a lasting impact.

  • Data Savvy: You’re comfortable using data to assess the effectiveness of campaigns and events, and you know how to adjust to make things even better.

  • Legislative Awareness: You understand how public policies impact the district and can communicate those changes in a clear and approachable way.

  • Grant Writing Skills: You have experience crafting compelling grant proposals to secure funding for important district initiatives.

Salary Range: $80,000–$90,000

The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables and carts. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus while conducting classes or working with computers, written materials, reports, assessment data, etc.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. The position requires the commitment of professional working hours that may require the employee to extend beyond a typical 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. workday. The employee will frequently work in different areas of the district including in/at desks, on or near the floor, standing, in movement while instructing or assisting others, etc. The employee will usually work in indoor temperatures.
