SUMMARY: Provides instruction in the curricular area of Modified or Adaptive Physical Education to students in sixth through twelfth grade. Position is responsible for instructing behaviorally challenged individuals in the program of adaptive physical education. Position positively motivates the student to develop appropriate skills, attitudes, and knowledge; utilizes a variety of instructional techniques appropriate to students’ abilities; and creates a safe and orderly learning environment. Position is also responsible for implementing behavior intervention plans for students. Position will serve Polk Alternative Education Center and collaborate with Bertram staff. ENDORSEMENTS:Physical Education 5-12Physical Education K-8ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Essential duties must be performed on site. Other duties or tasks may be assigned.1. Instructs secondary school students in adaptive physical education in accordance with the physical education standards outlined by the district.2. Enables students to develop an appreciation of the importance of physical education.3. Develops lessons appropriate to the needs and abilities of each assigned student.4. Provides individual/small group instruction that meets desired goals5. Assists students with developing healthy lifestyle behaviors and social skills.6. Uses a variety of instructional techniques appropriate for the ages and skill level of students.7. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior and creates a safe, orderly, and effective environment for learning.8. Evaluates student performance and social growth and prepares regular progress reports. physical ed. program.9. Supports and implements the district curriculum, standards and benchmarks.10. Assists in planning and delivery of social/emotional/behavioral school-wide programming.11. Meets the 8 Iowa Teaching Standards and 42 criteria on a consistent basis.12. Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.13. Other duties as assigned. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:Bachelor’s degree in Education required.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:Ability to perform basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, decimals and fractions. Ability to assist students in implementing these mathematical concepts.REASONING ABILITY:Ability to solve problems effectively.
