WAYPOINT SERVICES Permanent Supportive Housing Specialist in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

POSITION SUMMARY

The PSH Housing Specialist works with the highest barrier clients in our community experiencing homelessness. This position will support individuals in accessing housing supports and provide ongoing, long-term support to households in the program.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

? This position entails the following responsibilities and may include other duties as assigned:

? Manage a caseload of approximately 15 households who have experienced chronic homelessness, to help gain permanent housing.

? Work in the community to connect with high-barrier clients who are experiencing homelessness, to remove barriers to seeking housing assistance

? Assess program participants at program entry to jointly develop a strengths-based, goal-driven action plan that promotes permanent housing and self-sufficiency in the future.

? Work with participants to locate and secure appropriate housing; assist with landlord negotiations, housing applications, and leases when needed; advocate with landlords for prospective tenants.

? Work with the city to identify clients who need Housing Choice Vouchers, and identify other long term funding sources for clients

? Provide proactive follow-up home visits to ensure stability and further progress towards self-sufficiency; this includes support, advocacy, reducing isolation, listening, problem solving, and identification of resources to assist with reintegration of participants in the community.

? Assist clients with obtaining income through social security or employment

? Provide information and referral assistance regarding available support from appropriate social service agencies and/or community programs.

? Maintain the confidentiality and security of the facility and program participants without compromise at all times in accordance with the Waypoint Confidentiality Policy.

? Maintain professional and respectful behavior and interaction with all program participants and staff at all times in accordance with the Waypoint Ethics Policy

? Create and maintain a network of social service agencies to provide quick referrals to necessary services.

? Transport clients as deemed necessary. Transportation requirements should be limited to housing and job searches and occasional visit to relevant social service agencies.

? Input data accurately into HMIS database (Wellsky).

? Document in individual files and/or logs at stated intervals, according to agency record keeping procedures. Maintain and update program files as required by local, state and federal funders, planners and supervisors in a timely manner.

? Assist with program components (statistics, crisis intervention, public awareness presentations, Tenant Academy etc.) as assigned.

? Attend and participate in work assignment reviews with supervisor and regular staff meetings as assigned. Attend and participate in community groups, committees and collaborative organizations as assigned.

? Supervise/guide volunteers and students as needed.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

? Bachelor's Degree is preferred with experience in human service delivery. Will consider work/life/volunteer experience as equivalent.

? Experience working with people experiencing homelessness

? Possess an understanding of the dynamics of homelessness, child abuse, domestic violence, sexual abuse/assault, substance abuse and mental illness.

? Requires knowledge and belief in Housing First philosophy and strategies.

? Demonstrate sensitivity to working with families of diverse racial and cultural backgrounds and an understanding of poverty and oppression.

? Excellent communication skills, particularly listening, mediation, and writing skills.

? Demonstrate the ability to communicate the program's mission, purpose and procedures accurately to a variety of public audiences.

? If a Waypoint/DHS Non-Law Enforcement Records Check is required, receive a negative report.

? Must have valid driver's license and be insurable to meet the requirements of Waypoint insurance provider.

? Required to take HMIS (WellSky) training and pass training to obtain user license.

? Must be able to pass testing to access ServicePoint database and receive license within 45 days of employment.
