JOB GOAL:

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

Under the general direction of the Grounds Maintenance Director the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor assist in the responsibilities of supervision, mentoring, evaluation and work assignments of a skilled ground maintenance workforce. This position is responsible for providing technical guidance, operational management and personnel management within all Grounds Maintenance scopes of work.

The typical work schedule for this position will be Monday through Friday from 7 am to 3:30 pm.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate, implement, and contribute to the routine and non-routine seasonal maintenance for campus trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, and native habitat, general and athletic turf.

  • Support Director of Grounds initiatives and strategic direction for the team

  • Assist with timesheet approval, leave request and shift scheduling

  • Onboard, train and mentor new and existing Full-time and Part-time employees

  • Responsible for organizing, delegating, and assisting with work-orders

  • Coordinate personnel workloads based on grounds maintenance request

  • Coordinate efforts with outside contracted services

  • Assist with the implementation of special grounds related projects

  • Assist in managing snow removal equipment and operations for main campus along with oversight in off-campus snow removal contracts.

  • Respond to urgent or emergent calls for service.

  • Perform other related work duties as assigned

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

Position involves working in an office and warehouse setting. Frequent (34-66%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing. Occasional (10-33%) lifting up to 50 lbs.

Subject to extreme heat (temperatures above 90 degrees for periods of more than an hour; and extreme cold (temperatures below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma with 3-5 years of experience

  • Working knowledge of the Horticulture related industries

  • Valid driver's license required.

  • Iowa Core and Category Pesticides Licenses.

PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:

  • Associate's Degree in a Horticulture related field plus 5-7 years of experience.

  • Comprehensive working knowledge of Horticulture related industries

  • 3-5 years of full-time or part-time employee supervision experience.

  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills

  • Computer knowledge
